A Hidden Gem in North London

Tucked away in peaceful surroundings is the hidden gem of Muswell Hill Golf Club. A mature, beautifully maintained course that will test your skills through avenues of trees up and down dale. Superb greens, lush fairways and tee boxes to be admired. Friendly welcome and service in the pro-shop and clubhouse with an extensive menu for those of you with a large appetite. All that for only £20 on a Monday. Only note of caution (from the pro) - it gets very boggy in the wet winter months so get there now or save your visit until the Spring.

Well hidden - worth looking for

Even better than I can recall - course was in superb condition (a few too many blind spots though - long hitters take care). Splendid greens amongst the best I have ever played.

Arrived in time for a weekday morning tee time, no restaurant facility was availabel however if you look you can find a local parade of shops and it is possible to find a bacon sandwich at least, or Veg option if that is your disposition.

Downside was the plethoria of bitingg midges, quite an uncomfortable day... Pro shop prices have to be seen to be believed, so buy your supplies elsewhere.

I can imagine getting here on a busy traffic day could take a while, but cousre isn't far from the North Circular in a quiet part of suburbia..nothing by way of distraction.

In short - well appointed course, lots of clever variations, some interesting hazard placements.

A hidden oasis in London's great Metropolis ...

It was a hot and sunny day when we played at Muswell Hill, so I was looking forward to a good day’s golf and I wasn't disappointed!!

This course is very easy to get to locate, as it is only a mile or two from London’s busy North Circular and only 7 miles from the M25. However, what's most surprising about this course is how quiet it was ... The clubhouse, modern and airy, is open plan and very welcoming, as is the patio area, where the early birds were enjoying a post round drink as we arrived. There was a real buzz about the place and all the members we saw were very friendly.

The course itself is surrounded by mature and lush trees, meaning every hole is enclosed yet there is room on adjacent fairways if you do stray from your fairway. The layout starts with a few benign holes but this is welcome as whilst they may seem easy at first glance, rest assured the greens will keep you on your toes. We were fortunate that there had been a downpour the previous evening, otherwise I would have described them as lightening quick – I am guessing they were as high as 10 or 11 on the stimp meter.

There is a nice combination of holes and some with beautifully mown (criss-cross styli)and mature tree lined fairways with most holes requiring some thought and strategy – you will not always need your driver. However, if I had any criticism to make, I would say the course could benefit from a few more fairway bunkers (although I am being picky now). The bunkers that are around the greens are well maintained with good sand.

Once back at the clubhouse the staff couldn’t have been nicer. You are met with a smile and good humour and the bar food seemed reasonable considering we are so close to the centre of the capital.

All in all, a fantastic addition to the ‘TSG Preferred list’ and one that I plan to play many times over the coming months!

Great Course in great condition

Muswell Hill golf club is a very pretty well maintained course, quite tight in places and club selection is critical, the fairways were well manicured and to follow the greens were exceptionally quick, quite easy to 3 putt so be warned, will definitely play again

Definitely worth playing this course

Very nice clubhouse, friendly staff and a proper tea with top up water was only £1.50. Lots of trees to mess you up if you stray too far off line, and some tee shots are very daunting, (a few would like to see some tees just cut back a little for the tee shots).

We played after rain, but the greens held very well but were around 11 or so on the ol' stimp-meter I reckon, with some very deceptive breaks on them in places, but the ball rolled very true on them.

If you haven't played here before and want to play midweek for £20, test yourself at Muswell Hill. I'm definitely going back to play there again.

Great course in North London

What a gem?!!! A warm welcome from the Pro Shop and a TSG preferred rate of £20 for the round. Tee boxes were all in very good shape, the fairways were lovely underfoot and the greens were immaculate, fast and true. Some of the holes are quite similar to each other but that is just a small criticism of a place I very much look forward to returning.

Only other gripe is that the kitchen does not opne before 10am so don't expect a breakfast if you are teeing off early. A bit silly of them as there were in excess of 25 players in total teeing off before 10 and they could have made some money...Anyway, had a nice tuna sandwich after the game instead....

Beautifully presented but ultimately not very interesting

It's very hard to choose a rating for the course. The quality of the fairways and greens would rank 5 stars. The greens are, I think, the best I've ever played on, absolutely immaculate and perfectly true.

However, virtually every hole is a straight, narrow par 4. Even the par 5s are straight, narrow par 4s. There's too little variety.

The clubhouse is nice and the service is fine. The practice facilities are very limited, there's no range and the nets have mats with no holes for tees so you literally cannot swing a driver anywhere.

Very good value for £20 and worth playing but not a club I'd join.

Muswell Hill a TSG preferred course

Muswell Hill GC is very welcoming, with excellent facilities, well stocked pro shop and a superb bar with outside sitting, adjacent to the putting green which was in perfect condition and very fast. Excellent, very large practice nets are also provided.

This is a par 71 course with 3 par 5's which are not the longest, but because of their shape and undulations, even low handicappers will struggle to get on in two.

The tee mounds were flat and first class. Tree lined fairways again were in excellent condition and beautifully mowed. 200, 150 and 100 yd markers are clearly visible both at the sides and in the middle of of fairways and flag colour denotes the position of the hole on each green...front centre and back.

The first few holes are straight up and down and seriously undulating, but nevertheless not a difficult walk even with a push trolley.

The greens were in superb condition quite fast and true, and mostly very large with bunker protection. Although I was fortunate not to find any of them, they were filled with proper sand which is a bonus, as most courses I've played recently the bunkers have been hard and unpredictable. If there is any criticism it is that the rough is a bit scruffy in places, but you shouldn't be there anyway :-), nevertheless, if you're off the fairway, under the trees from the off tee...send down a provisional.

Altogether an excellent course...not the longest at 6,100yds off the yellows, but a good test of golf. and I thoroughly recommend it, particularly with a green fee at the TSG discounted price of £20.

I will definitely return.
