My 1st round with TSG - Excellent !!

Played here on probably one of the hottest days this year. Course was wonderful and TSG organiser Pete was a top gentleman. I hope to be able to play with him again sometime soon.

Tree lined parkland, with nice hazards

Not excessively long this is one of those course where there are a fair few switchbacks and crossovers. But all in all, good value for money (for seniors if you ask). Not a difficult place to find but you might drive past. Speaking with the on site pro there may be a return to the snack bar in the courtyard - otherwise breakfast and stuff is in the adjacent restuarant facility. Course was in reasonable condition, and once the fog had been burnt away the sun made this a pleasant day out. fairways and semi rough were a bit unkemot in places but you can't expect everythin (some problems spotting ball). The approach road has a few bumps and potholes in need of repaur but parking is adequate and locals are friendly. Was stuck behing slow moving 4-ball otherwise this could have been a 3 hour round.

Greens were fair enough, a bit slickk and quite hard. Clever use of natural hazards (ditces, water and suchlike) required attention most of the time... no two holes ever quite the same, but then again no real feature holes.

Some undulations might have made the walk a little difficult for some, but buggies were available. Nice practice green, OK practice area.

For a council-run course it's in great shape

Pros: great condition for a public course, better greens than Trent Park (which is the other public course in the area). Very cheap (£10 after 3pm). Pace of play much better than Trent Park on a Sunday.

Cons: no clubhouse, no bar. There is a pro shop. There's also a Toby Carvery a short walk away, but good luck getting served in that. Only 1 par 5 hole.

Nice council course

Played here for the first time in January 2014. Very wet with standing water on some fairways. Greens were very damp.

Although a short course there are some interesting holes.

I would like to play here in the summer when the course was dry.

Short, reasonably tidy, OK to have in roster of courses

A short course with quite a few par 3's around the 150-yard mark and plenty of par 4's between 300 and 350 yards and a par of 68. Greens were in good condition, though not perfect, fairways were fine, but tee boxes were scruffy and lacking in flat areas, out of keeping with the overall condition. There are also no rakes, which is a challenge on a course with plenty of bunkers.

Not much in the way of practice facilities - a small-ish putting green with a few places you could practice short chips from, and a net hidden around the corner between the 1st and 9th greens.

The design is pleasant enough - not enough interesting holes perhaps to make you desperate to play regularly, but good enough that you wouldn't mind returning once in a while. The two-tiered 7th green was a feature, as were a few holes on the back 9 requiring fairly accurate tee shots. I like the 11th, around 400 yards with trees narrowing the fairway from both sides just past a ditch at about 220, making you play safely into the gap off the tee leaving a long iron uphill to the green, or go over the trees (or through a tight gap) to leave a shorter approach.

Some parts were pretty squelchy - perhaps it had rained more heavily than I thought in the last couple of days.

Not averse to returning, wouldn't rush to play regularly!

Pleasant enough

Nice little course. Greens true a little slow, bunkers ok no rakes so could end up in footprint . Fairways good with rough quite penal. To sum up.. A municipal course, reasonable interest, good value at £21 and would put on our list courses to play throughout the year

What a little gem....

Decided to play here following the review by John A. and he was true to his word. A shortish course, tucked away on the North London suburbs, this is a great find! OK, it's not Wentworth but the parkland course twists and turns with some testing Par 3's and 4's with every hole different. Considering this is council course, the greens are well looked after too. You are welcomed at the Pro shop by friendly staff, who are happy to help and point you in the right direction. We paid £10 with a 2for1 voucher but would have happily paid the full rate. Nice little pub next door to enjoy a post round drink in too. Will definitely be revsiting this course - thanks John!

At £20....a very good 'find'

Having been recommended to me, this course was on my radar to play, but I was surprised to see no previous TSG reviews for a course with a weekend green fee of only £20 (weekday £16).

Not far from J25 of the M25, but distant enough for traffic noise not to be noticeable, this course is in a mature country park. There are public walkways, so you have to be mindful of dog walkers, etc, who are often oblivious to the dangers of stray golf balls! This does not spoil the experience of tree-lined fairways and countryside views.

Not a long track (5507yds - yellow tees) and no steep hills, but course management is important as a few holes have fairways which narrow at driver distance, with gaps in trees and a stream to negotiate. If you're out of position (as I was several times), your scorecard will suffer.

The greens were very good, surrounds quite 'lush', but this is not a normal summer. I didn't venture into any sand, which looked good - although I noticed there were no rakes to use. Perhaps a sensible Local Rule would be to allow 'Preferred Lies' in bunkers here?

We didn't have time to sample the clubhouse facilities but, after an enjoyable round, will definately return to a course which I consider to be a good 'find'.
