Nice Course

First time I've played this course. Staff very friendly. I was amazed to see a course so green after all the hot weather we had. Did play soft due to the heavy rain and some bunkers where filled with water. Work had been done to the greens, a bit slow but ok.

Overall I definitely recommend this course and I will be returning.

Great course - sadly no facilities

A very enjoyable track in decent condition. A lot of investment in the course with some very interesting holes. Thoroughly enjoyable round, such a shame there’s no clubhouse. Will certainly be returning, armed with some course knowledge. Well worth a visit

Great condition lots of interesting holes

Have heard a lot about toot hill and read many good reviews so was looking forward to playing it for the first time. I wasn't disappointed. Despite virtually constant rain all the way around the course was on great condition. Greens were fast and true despite the rain.Only down side was my 3 shots in one soggy bunker!!!!

Toot Hill - A change of mindset

Not that long ago Toot Hill was a pure members course, and accepted visitors on a visitors green fee basis. It has now changed to a Pay and Play . . Indeed the website banner's message is "The best pay and play in Essex". With green fees set at £22 Mon-Thu (senior £18) with Fri £25 and Weekend £35 it is a bargain.

There is nothing to suggest that the quality of the course has suffered detrimentally with the change. It has a great course layout, quite wide fairways, fast greens. A course where numerous greenkeeping staff are pottering around keeping it in good shape. The signature hole is the 12th with an island green and although you can't see the water from the tee, you know it is there . . not long 125yards from the yellows, but the water seems to frequently catch the poor tee shot.

What has changed is the clubhouse. I remember going there for society meals. It is now closed. There is no 19th hole anymore, and whilst it might be possible to get a post game can of coke from the pro shop, it's not the same.

So it is a back to basics course, where the course is more important than the clubhouse. This may change in the future, as they are loosing a revenue stream. Be aware that they take online bookings two weeks ahead, and it gets booked quickly. I think the tees are released early hours 1am or so . . so set your alarm clocks and enjoy . .

Excellent course

Thoroughly enjoyed my first visit to Toot hill, beautifully set up with some challenging holes. Fairways and greens were well maintained. Good value for money. I loved the signature island par 3. Best course I've played so far since i started playing again, as Arnie said "I'll be back" lol

Good condition

An attractive course in good condition. We played it on 25th July. Unfortunately heavy rain did not present it in the best light. Disappointed no provision at all in club house for anything after the round. Everything was closed.

This really is a hidden gem for Essex golfers.

Played this course for the first time and thoroughly enjoyed it. Rough was virtually non-existent and the fairways and greens nice and short some interesting Holes with tree lined fairways. Surprisingly the clubhouse was closed so no refreshments available, but I checked by telephone in the morning and came prepared with a full coolbox. Very competitive green fees with a discount for seniors. Getting a tee time is harder than you may think. Be prepared to wait until the early hours of the morning for tees to be released for online booking.

Enjoyably Challenging Golf Course-Recommended

A 'short' par 70 parkland course off the yellow tees in the heart of Essex. There are 5 par 3s and only 3 par 5s to the course.
The course, played in March 2017, in light rain and winds, was in wonderful condition. While the danger of OOB is prominent on at least 7 of the 18 holes; the course nevertheless gave me a feeling of spaciousness.
The greens were firm, were of various size, shape and undulation, and were beautiful to putt on; all told they were in magnificent condition; equal to the best I've ever played.
The fairways and greens were well protected by astutely placed bunkers.
The SSS off the white tees is +1 over par 72 reflecting the additional difficulty whereas the SSS off the yellow tees was -2 below par.
Water is prominently in play on the 4th, 9th, 11th, 12th, 15th and 18th holes, including an island green (12th); so there is great danger to the scorecard.
Normal midweek 'golf only' green fees are £35; we enjoyed the £25 winter green fee which included full english breakfast. Great VFM.
I look forward to getting an opportunity to play this course again in summer conditions.

****5****

Toot Hill, well where do you start, having played a large amount of courses especially in November when there's been rain and leaves everywhere, this course had been cleared of all leaves to leave superb lush green carpet fairways, the greens were fast and undulating, this course was playing better than any course I have seen in the summer, club house friendly staff and food 5* the island hole is a superb feature always get treated well here other clubs could learn a lot from them. Only praise no complaints at all will always go back

Toot Hill is one of the best courses in Essex

Very welcoming staff, superb course in great condition. Toot Hill has some tough holes, very fast greens.
But there are good chances to score for high handicappers.
Only had a breakfast which was ok, can really comment on the food.
Toot Hill remains in the top 5 courses in the county for me!

Every tee has fantastic views

What a old English quaint golfcourse, very firm fairways and good run off areas, if your not careful the course can grab you and spit you out. Greens are very responsive and true, have to think and play this course. Very enjoyable course can't wait for a re-visit....

A thinker’s course, one of the best I’ve played in Essex.

Mature short parkland course one of the best I’ve played in Essex.
With undulating fairways, fairway bunkers, some water hazards with firm, fast & true undulating greens.
It may be short but good course management is required to score well.
Overall the course was in excellent condition.
Excellent old charm club house & pro shop with friendly staff.
Practise putting/chipping green. Driving range. Sadly no driving nets.
This is my sort of course I definitely be a member & recommend
You have to play this course at least once you won’t regret it....

Blowing a bugle for a very attractive course

Found just about every hole to be attractive and interesting, course was in good condition, once thawed the greens played well, quite splendid array of green configurations. A fair spattering of water and other hazards kept the attention focussed, All of the par 3s are a challange.. playing longer than their stated yardage... but well appointed.

This course needs a revisit - when the trees are in leaf, great views from most of the course, great use of the countryside. Looks to be well-maintained and supervised. Officials and staff all friendly and helpful, well worth a second visit.

Very Nice indeed.....

I'd been meaning to play here for some time and I wasnt disappointed! The course is very well mantained and the greens are as good as anywhere Ive played in Essex. The land undulates but is not too tough for a youngster like me. Parkland in layout, the signiture hole is a delightful island green which I managed land cleanly on. Thoroughly enjoyed the course, a freindly Pro shop - I plan to go back soon!

Nice clubhouse with a friendly welcome.

Great practice facilites, grass driving range, chipping area and putting green.

Very good use of the terrain to make this course.

The tees, fairways, bunkers and greens are all in a very good condition.
