A very good experience

As a complete package, Slinfold goes a long way to ticking all of the boxes. The clubhouse and practise facilities are both excellent, and the course certainly doesn't let itself down.

As a first timer there seemed to me to be a lot of doglegs here, especially over the first 5 or 6 holes where there are even a couple of 90 degree corners. The theme continues on a couple of holes on the back 9, and I imagine course knowledge can be very important here.

The fairways are generally pretty fair, although there are a couple where you need to make sure you hit it straight. There are a few hidden bunkers or lakes, but usually you'll be able to see where to hit and where to miss. The greens, tees and fairways were all in very good condition.

What is missing is a pro-shop and bookings have to be made through the reception. That's not a problem though, and the welcome there was every bit as pleasant as any course I've played at.

I didn't really feel like many of the holes had a "wow" factor, but that doesn't mean that this isn't a very pleasant location to play golf, because it is.

Recommended: Requires good course management

From the yellow tees this is a 6,025 par 72, comprising 4 par 3s, 10 par 4s and 4 par 5s; ie it is a conventionally balanced course.

There is only one hole over 400 yards so most of the par 4s are reachable in regulation for the medium to high handicappers.

That said the course's defence is that there are many doglegs and carries over water; valleys or through trees; which affect club selection. Driver won't be required on some holes or risk/reward choices will need to be made. On the occasion I played it I chose the 'safer' options on a few occasions and regretted that approach.

We played on a Saturday society rate so it was reasonable vfm for a weekend.

The bar/catering facilities were good though the facility is more of a leisure centre than a members club atmosphere.

The one real negative was that there wasn't a proper pro shop available to golfers.

Good course, would go back

I thought the front 9 was more challenging than the back 9, and having never played there before a number of doglegs and blind bunkers could easily catch you out. The greens were not in good condition, as they had been recently hollow tined and were a bit sandy in places, there were also a few that had quite unexpected breaks. But luckily enough it was one of those days the the putting gods were one my side and I seemed to hole everything. Would like to play it again when the greens have recovered.

Well worth playing

Slinfold Park is a nice course.
Has a number of dogleg holes both ways [left to right and right to left].
It also has water on some holes although some of it should not come into play unless you hit a really bad shot.
Some tight fairways.
Rough was harsh.....if you miss the fairway you were 80% likely to lose the ball!!
Nice clubhouse. Good practice facilities with a driving range, putting green, chipping and bunker practice area as well.
Well worth playing.

Slinfold Golf Club

Played Slinfold golf club on one of our SCC TOUR golf societys, upon arrival you can see that it also offers a health club, gym and swimming pool so if this comes with your annual golf membership, -- then you have the use of excellent facilities, my only worry is that ive been told it can get very busy and i suspect it has a lot of members and ive never been one for overcrowded clubs.
Anyway Breakfast on arrival was superb, a full English so this was a good setup before we got down to the golf, the course was a good variety of holes, plays just over the 6000yds so not to long but challenging I would say, fairways in pretty good condition although a little dry, greens very patchy and was the most disapointing thing about the course.
Overall I will look forward to returning next year when the tour hopefully returns to play here.
