DESCRIPTION:

Ilkley Golf Club, founded in 1890, is one of Yorkshire’s oldest and most prestigious clubs, offering a superb 18-hole parkland course with a par of 69 and a length of 6,276 yards. Situated on the banks of the River Wharfe, the course is known for its scenic beauty, with the river meandering alongside several holes and the surrounding Ilkley Moor providing a stunning backdrop. The course itself is relatively flat but features well-placed bunkers, tricky doglegs, and fast, true greens that test golfers of all levels. Ilkley’s signature par-4 4th hole, played alongside the river, is a highlight for many players.

Located near the A65, the club is easily accessible from Leeds and Bradford, and nearby attractions include Ilkley Moor, famous for its hiking trails and historic rock carvings, and the picturesque town of Ilkley, known for its Victorian architecture and traditional tea rooms. Ilkley Golf Club offers a unique combination of challenging golf and beautiful surroundings, making it a must-visit for golfers in the region.

Top 100 golf course

Founded in 1890 Ilkley is the 3rd oldest golf course in Yorkshire, measuring 6262 from the medal tees, A 'nice' course rather than anything too brutal. Typical Yorkshire countryside surrounds the course, and once out on the course the view of the Moors is prectacular on a sunny day. The course is blessed with many fine holes, the most memorable are the openers adjacent to the river.
Ilkley was probably an absolute brute before the onset of modern equipment, distance balls and square-headed drivers. In fact, the whole club and town seems to be (in a nice way) in a 1960's 'Heartbeat' style time-warp!
Play it for the scenery, the friendly welcome in the clubhouse, the teas & scones and the knowledge that you are following in the footsteps of Colin Montgomerie and Make James who learnt their trade here. Don't come here expecting three figure scores on a 7000 yard beast of a course, just enjoy the day!
The greens were better when I played than when the previous reviewer did. The bunkers are OK I guess (didn't really go in them!) and the fairways are a pleasure to hit off.
