Hi I'm thinking of joining a club this year and was looking at 5day membership as I only play midweek. I'm in Essex and was looking at joining top meadow as it priced very reasonably. Is anyone a member there and can tell me what to expect from membership. Thanks.

Hi Roger,

Welcome to TSG!

I think there have been a few members from TSG at Top Meadow  but they all left (Andy C?)....

But why join a club on a 5 day membership when you have more than enough golfers in Essex and the surrounding counties on TSG to play with? See the 'Join Games' tab above....

What Ian said. Essex is positively crawling with TSGers and there's at least a couple of midweek games a week.

The Epping Bandits play every monday and it's an open group. I would at least give that a go before committing to a membership.

If I were going to join a club in your neck of the woods I would pick one owned by Crown Golf because you can play at their other clubs for free.

Hi Roger,

I am a member of a club, albeit the wrong side of the water for you, but I am also one of the first members to join TSG when it launched in 2008.

From my perspective, I get the best of both worlds. I am very happy with my club membership, now spanning 15 years. I am now a member of the General Committee and Ladies Committee. I love the membership, can play whenever I want and enjoy the clubhouse facilities, as well as enter all the comps and try to reduce my handicap (going the wrong way at the moment - must try harder).

However, I wanted to play other courses and meet other golfers in the local area, as well as bring them to my club at greatly reduced fees and I regularly host games for the guys and girls. I have made a lot of good friends by being a member of TSG and am a member of the group SES and have also played with some of the famous Epping Bandits who are great company.

So - I would probably emulate Steve's recommendation at this stage and join a few of the Epping Bandit games and get a feel for what we are all about and you won't be disappointed.

If you decide you still want to join a club, there are great deals to be had on 5-day memberships and there is always heavy marketing going on, so the world could be your oyster.

Enjoy

Hi Roger

Here's a chance to see what Top Meadow is all about as well as joining in with the Epping Bandits, if memory serves Dave Jacobs is organising a day out 20 Jan at Top Meadow.  There may be spaces to join.

Bottom line TSG - Epping Bandits always receive a good welcome at Top Meadow - clubhouse breakfast is fine... Pro-shop can be a bit hit and miss though.  Last time I was at Top Meadow the course was in need of some TLC and I suspect it will be pretty much the same for the rest of this year.

An interesting layout though, some clever holes - some long ones...nice selection of hazards.  Definately a course to develop skills at.

Now the downside, the place is popular with occasional societies, Mondays can be incredibly long if you get stuck behind a slow group (I think over 6 hours was the last record).

On the plus side the Epping Bandits do play during the week at a variety of courses and you would get to see plenty of good/different venues...

I prefer to play at different places rather than limit myself to one course... others may have a different viewpoint.
