Green fees update

Further to John's comments, the 2022 midweek adult green fee is £70; or £35 as a member's guest; local residents have a £40 limited time rate; but the rate most likely to apply to me is the £45 County Card rate.

Having just renewed my Cherry Lodge membership my Kent county affiliation fees include the issue of the County Card! However in the modern IT age the plastic card has now been replaced by an App!

I played here a few times many many years ago, when an occasional beginner category golfer, even winning their St Patrick's Day member and visitor pairs competition one time (not an honours board competition). At the time it was the best course and club I'd ever played!

The vista from their clubhouse terrace is wonderful; the 1st, 6th and 10th tee boxes with the 9th and 18th greens!

This is now on my bucket list to play later after we've had some rainfall to add this course formally to my registered rounds of golf!

Great course . . . .flat!!

A great round of golf on a very flat course. Very challenging in all areas but the best thing of all were the greens. They are the best I have played on all year. Great track and a great clubhouse for a beer afterwards. Definitely worth a visit if you get the chance. Not sure of the price of a green fee as I was on a courtesy round as playing in a competition, but probably worth every penny.

Longest Par 5 in Middlesex....superb greens...Listed building as Clubhouse.

Fulwell Golf Course is a parkland course on a corner the historic Hounslow Heath, well known for its Highwaymen (Dick Turpin & co.). The course/club will celebrate its centenary next year.

It has the longest Par 5 in Middlesex the 17th, 565 yds from white, and only 510 yds from the Red.

There has been changes in the design over the years, at one time there were two 18 holes (an inner and an outer course), during WWII, the inner was used as agricultural land. Now there is one 18 holes, parkland with lots of mature trees, very well maintained, lovely fairways despite our dry summer but the most attractive are the greens, their fringes. The greens are fast & true, some very long, some narrower, lovely ondulations & shapes and in truly superb condition.

Walking is easy as the land is flat, well secluded from the roads and nearby houses and surprisingly no aircraft noise although Heathrow Airport is only 6 miles away. Good signage to next tees, well presented Tee boxes.

2 favourite holes:

The 9th (signature hole)Par 3,153 yds from yellow, Tee shot over a pretty lake with some trees in the way, 2 bunkers before the fringe and 2 very wide ones on either side of the green with OOB at the back... the clubhouse is in the background as well.

The 18th, Par 4: drive between large mature trees, a ditch in front of the green, wide & long bunker on the left of the green , OOB at back and right hand side of the green. Lovely view of the practice green and the clubhouse and its sunny & colourful terrace.

Proshop is well stocked, a very friendly welcome, local residents have a special rate on a special day & time: well worth the £30.

Ladies changing rooms are very smart & modern, lockers available for visitors.

The Clubhouse is a Listed building which was the old farmhouse, did not visit this time, but seems pleasant and does nice lunches. Sunny outside terrace (facing west) with beautiful display of summer flowers.

Car Park for visitors can be tight as lots of locals come and "do lunch at Fulwell", but there are spaces by the putting green.

Practice facilities: superb practice green by the Clubhouse, between the 1st and the 18th hole. A chipping, bunker practice by the 9th hole situated on the right hand side as you drive to the Car Park. There is an open driving range as well.

This is a Members club, very local to me, in a suburban area but you feel you are miles away from the madding crowd, members & staff seem are friendly, you get acknowledged with a smile, you are made to feel welcome.

Will certainly pay another visit, will try winter time as the heathland is gravel based, so the course must drain well.

THE END.......
