Nice public golf course, shame about large uncut Grass

Its Hillingdon council run public Golf course - pay & play.

It’s great value for money. Twilight is £15 , otherwise £27.

Shame about uncut grass on greens - be prepared to lose balls, many of them.

Drainage seems to be an issue in winter with many areas bit soggy.

In summer, it would be really nice to play - on par with private courses.

A true little gem with a stunning Par 3 to start yur secnic round....

Haste Hill is not a long course but well designed (Harry Colt in 1926), a mature ondulating parkland course where long hitters are able to use their Driver on quite a few holes providing they hit straight as the fairways are lined with magnificient trees. There are ditches crossing many fairways to add interest/challenge to all. Shorter hitters really have to work out the carry/roll etc.

The Par 3s are short and sweet but well protected by bunkers,I cannot comment about the sand as I never had a sand shot, unusual for me... I had other challenges to negotiate.

The Par 4S are not too long either. There are some well designed dog legs with sloping fairways.

Only one Par 5 (525 yards) from the Yellow Tee, but more from the Reds.

The greens are truly superb, with very subtle ondulations, sometimes tiers, very sleek/fast/true. I got caught out today and miss a few putts...

The fairways are very well kept (some were being watered today (the 10th), it made the Tee shot even more interesting, the rough is very decent too as it is cut short.

The 1st nine, although short, is very tough, so a big contrast with the last nine, where one's challenge is less demanding but accuracy is vital.

A very scenic & well cared for "Pay & Play", to me it looks more like a private/members club.

My 2 favourites holes:

Hole 1, Par 3, a real beauty, raised Tee, (one does wonder if it is a public or private course) a small ditch to carry and 4 wonderful bunkers in the distance guarding the wide raised green, slightly sloping, very faint ondulations with wonderful trees as a backdrop. From the Tee box you know you are going to experience some wonderful golf, even if the course is not long.

Hole 6, Par 4 (signature hole): raised Tee box, one can get quite excited by the views offered down below, just like a postcard: Northwood appears in the background and there are matured trees all around, downhill sloping fairway, some sort of a wild area on the right of the Tee box where I saw some people having a picnic or just admiring the views, so I believe there is access to the public from somewhere.

No strenuous walks between holes, but I would have been helpful to see more signs as visitors may not always appreciate that the next tee is not the one adjacent to the green just played ! (only on 1 or 2 occasions though), but today Nikeel, the Organiser & new TSGer knew the way, so was not a problem. A round can easily be done in less than 4 hours if no waiting on the Tee boxes.

Very warm welcome in the Pro Shop by Lawrence C. who was very interested when I mentioned The Social Golfer.com and also the fact that I publish my notes/feeling about the course, the experience, etc..., but it could have been my French accent t!!!. Not an enormous amount of stock but enough to choose from.

Again a friendly & warm atmosphere in the Clubhouse, nicely laid out, nice views of the 1st and 10th Tees & practice putting green. Excellent coffee, scrumptious warm bacon baguette. Today, thanks to Nikeel, that was part of the deal: £8.00 only, including 1/2 hour golf lesson with the Pro. (not sure how he got that deal). Lovely fresh food on offer and very reasonable prices too. Excellent service with a smile.

Pleasant seating areas outside on both side of the Clubhouse, with very attractive flowers, it really has the feel of a private club as everything is well presented, clean, tidy, the changing rooms are small but very modern & shiny.

Members are very friendly, seem happy, 5-day membership is very affordable. I had a long chat with 2 of the members, again they took an interest in the "Social Golfer". I also had a long interesting chat with the Manager, Gail K. who seemed delighted that I took so much interest in this little gem of a golf course.

Fairly large well laid out Car Park.

Practice nett, chipping/ sand bunker area, but I did not use them.

I understand this course is managed by the Borough of Hillingdon as well as 2 other nearby golf courses, Ruilsip & Uxbridge.

As said earlier, today was an excellent offer posted by Nikeel, thanks for that and well done on your birdies, pars, I wont mention the putts though............

As said earlier, not a long but an enjoyable challenge for all levels of golfers. I shall return as the ordinary green fees are very reasonable & I like the feel of the place and Lawrence (from the Proshop) is going to buy me a coffee!!!

THE END...
