Vale do Lobo is home to two outstanding golf courses – The Royal and the Ocean.
The original Vale do Lobo course, designed by Sir Henry Cotton in 1968, was re-developed in 1987 by the American golf architect Rocky Roquemore. The original back nine surviving as the back nine of the Ocena course.
The Ocean course (5424 meters) plays through umbrella pine and fig tree-lined fairways down to Atlantic.
The Royal course (6050 meters) plays dramatically along the cliff´s edge with the 205 meter 16th hole, with its series of ravines plunging to the beach, probably the most recognised golf hole in Portugal. Unfortunately the rest of the course is less spectacular and hemmed in by sprawling housing developments.
Both courses are always superbly maintained.
Although Vale do Lobo has twice been host to the Portuguese Open both courses are capable of providing an enjoyable game for golfers of all standards.
