DESCRIPTION:

Pinhal Golf Course, now part of the Oceanico Group of Golf Resorts, was the second golf course built in Vilamoura and inaugurated in 1976.

Having originally been designed by Frank Pennink (the architect of the nearby Vilamoura Old Course) several refinements have been implemented over the years, the most significantby Robert Trent Jones Sr. in 1985.

Pinhal is typified by rolling parkland terrain covered with numerous Umbrella and Atlantic Pines that line many of the fairways and a few even stand out on fairways or near greens.

Ponds and a stream come into play on five holes and to keep up with modern technical advances in clubs and balls, several holes have recently been lengthened and the par-72 course now measures 6,353 metres off the white tee markers.

The clubhouse was completely renovated in 2000 and the large verandah offers views over the driving range and practice facilities.

Great course

Pinhal has really upped its game in terms of course management and service. The greens where some of the best we have played on and the remainder of the course was in superb condition. Friendly staff in a nice clubhouse. Enjoyed the beers afterwards. You have to manage your way round the course and not just hit a driver on every long hole. Lads really enjoyed playing this course and some said it was even better than the Old course which we played 2 days earlier.

However the cost of golf in Vilamoura is going through the roof in terms of green fees. It is expensive and when you add on 30 euros per person for a buggy you are talking near 180 euros per person a round.

But again with a tour company you get a better ate added in as part of the package.

Will definitely be back to play here again.

One of the Best in Vilamoura

The winding climb over the hills of Vilamoura makes for a challenging, interesting and scenic round. You cannot take it easy on any hole - plan your distances and shots carefully. Club house was also very pleasant and offered the best and cheapest golf club menu I experienced during a week in the Algarve. However, it is not cheap. Average price of a round is in the order of €80 and a buggy will cost you an additional €40.
