Absolutely the best course in Hampshire

I struggled with my golf, that said I was mesmerised at just how nice this course was.

The experience from start to finish was of the highest level.

Arrived in the rain, with no umbrella, or wets to wear, the gentleman in the shop did not hesitate to load me an umbrella.

All the staff during breakfast had a smile on their faces, and the stewards around the course were fantastic, polite and extremely attentive.

The course was 200% fantastic, LOVED IT.

Greens top notch. Scenery lovely. Bunkers well maintained with the really nice white sand. Fairways the best of any course I played.

Easily the most enjoyable course I have played, and my game was not good, can't wait to go back next year.

An excellent heathland course

Blackmoor is a beautiful heathland course in Bordon, Hampshire. Founded in 1913, designed by Harry Colt, it is a relatively short par 69. The white tees at Blackmoor are similar in length to the yellow tees at my club Cherry Lodge.
It is a a very comfortable walking course with minimal impact uphill stages. Being an old style old course; the course designer managed to limit the extent of walks from greens to tee boxes. There was only one problematic green to tee situation where players couldn't properly/safely exit the green whilst players were on the next par 3 . A slight delay was experienced to us and the following group.
Fairways are in great condition, are relatively generous in terms of landing areas from the tees; however, severe trouble lurks left and right for anything pulled or sliced, be it gorse/long grass or water. Make the percentage plays from the tee in order to best compile a score.
There is a collection of five beautiful par 3s to enjoy.
The course is heavily bunkered on the fairways and surrounding the greens, They are deep but getoutable. I can attest to this being in bunkers on 8 of the 18 holes, mostly surrounding the greens.
Historically the course was a regional qualifier for the Open Championship between 1998 to 2003. Modern golf equipment has rendered the course to be an inadequate challenge for the tour professional however it is a still a good challenge to us amateurs.
Blackmoor is one of the big 5 heathland courses in the Hampshire, Surrey and Sussex areas; ie grouped with Hankley Common, Hindhead, Liphook and West Sussex. Having now played Blackmoor, Hindhead and Liphook of these five, Blackmoor is the 'easier' of these three but is nevertheless a 'play it if you can' course if a VFM option or member invite presents itself.
Midweek visitor green fees are £70. I paid a £45 competition entry fee to their Seniors Open Stableford Competition, including coffee/bacon roll, 18 holes, a two course buffet lunch and competition prizes. A great VFM way to get to play the course.
7 day membership fees are £1,430 with a £750 joining fee. This is a course I would be very happy to be a member of if I lived within a reasonable commute to the course.
Play it if you can.

A must play course

Parkland and Heather course, played off the whites and you have to hit long to get passed the Heather before the fairways, great layout, bunkers very deep but in superb condition, greens very fast and with lots of underlations so expect lots of three puts with ball running off the green on many greens, the course is really for low handicappers and not for the faint hearted, Food superb,

A TOP HAMPSHIRE COURSE

This course was originally laid out by renowned golf architect Harry Colt, some 95 years ago. It is currently ranked 78th best in England and is certainly in the top handful in Hampshire.

The course consists of two loops of nine holes created from heathland, with fairways surrounded by heather, pine, birch and oak trees. There are 5 par3s (4 of them uphill) but only 2 par5s making the layout on the short side, however, many of the par4s are doglegs which adds to the challenge.

Blackmoor is home to a number of amateur and professional competitions, including the Selborne Salver which attracts many top amateurs and has been won by the likes of Justin Rose in the past.

The green fee of £45 reflects the quality of the course but the twilight rate of £30 is decent value.
