Warley Park Golf Club

Since the masters was postponed a fair amount of improvement is noticeable. The course is still full of elevation changes so itvis a hard walk. Lots of tricky holes with plenty of hazards. The 8th has been remodelled, now about 125 yds. If you hit the right spot on the green your ball can roll back towards the water. Greens are hard and fast, approaches also rapid.

Birdies are possible, bogeys quite acceptable. Doubles and triples are not unusual.

Staff are most welcoming, bar food is good and fresh. Beer is nicely chilled. A fair amount of parking.

Bring a camera as there are some splendid views.

Greenkeepers have worked hard, and the promise by management is that they will continue to do so.

Probably played the course too early in golf season as it was not in good nick, hence the 2. The holes were not trimmed and a lot for the course was rough. Hopefully a month from now it's better as I will be back and hopefully give it a higher score.

That said it looks like there is an attempt to improve the course as I could see lots of work going on. Also the course layout is not boring, the holes are different and as a golf course it looks a nice course, so looking forward to playing it again in the summer.

Lets see how they do this spring and summer, like I said I will play it again.

Wow !! I was not expecting that, never been there let alone played there, one course I would really like to play often in the future.

I loved the course very challenging but played with the lady captain who was awesome advisor round the course and a lovely player definately will play there again

Having played, and enjoyed, the Warley course previously a few years ago (holes 1 - 18); the TSG Masters was played in April 2018; this time over the Childerditch 9 holes plus the Warley holes 1-9 .

While the club hosted our event wonderfully I was very disappointed to find that we were allocated the Childerditch course among our 18 holes given the very poor state of the course fairways and rough. The greens were however in a very acceptable condition.

While understanding that the very wet conditions of recent weeks makes on course maintenance difficult; it seemed to me that the club had made no effort to mow the fairways or rough areas to an expected condition during the recent week or so of good dry weather. The effect being to turn what is otherwise a good/fair challenging course into an unedifying unnecessary slog over the hilliest part of the course. Many times I found myself pushing my electric trolley through the many uphill areas because the trolley motor couldn't cope with the extra drag caused by the long wet clinging grass.

Clearly some of our group played and scored well despite the above. All credit to those. Unfortunately on the day I allowed my disappointment in the course conditions to adversely affect my performance.

Finally the biggest bugbear for me. Petty perhaps but why can't they use separate scorecards for each of the three course combinations? Much easier for recording scoring. Having 27 holes on the card is unnecessarily finicky. Also why don't they name each of the 9 holes more sensibly; eg Blue, Red, Yellow ( a la Farleigh GC ).

Despite the above gripes it was an enjoyable day among great company both within our 4 ball and of the whole TSG fraternity.

With sloping fairways and many blind shots, this was a challenging course. Fortunately holes were not too long and it was possible to recover. greens are in good condition and tricky to read

my first time played full 18 enjoyed course it is hilly and lot of holes are blind but enjoyable course

I am glad that I made the long ride from Lancashire, as I always enjoy a round of golf and enjoy the company on the TSG Golf Days. I like the course and there's plenty of scenery on route which is good to take in too.

I'd heard that Warley Park was worth a visit but "the locals don't play the 9 over the road". Well, I played in the TSG Masters and we played the 9 over the road first and I have to say it was well worth the visit.

The clubhouse and facilities are very nice but the course is even better. The 9 over the road is undulating and a good challenge. After the relatively straight forward opening par 3 every hole asks questions for players of all handicaps. The greens were very quick and very consistent.

I look forward to returning to Warley Park and trying the 9 I haven't yet played, at which point I'll post an update to reflect on the overall consistency of the 27 holes.

Really enjoyable course. Could have played the 9 hole warley course twice as an 18 hole. Really fun and tricky as heck.

The whole course was very enjoyable, and so beautiful.

Hilly course that is kept in a very good condition. The greens are tricky to read and some greens have two tiers. Nice driving range, you can hit the ball off the grass in the summer months. Well worth playing if you are in the area.

Christmas Eve round, well attended but a little daring considering there had been so much rain the prevous days/week.

The course was playable, I enjoyed the layout, the variety, the blind tee shots with guiding post & the challenge of the numerous water features and certainly more than usual on the day!!!!!! Some ravines had been created. There were ditches across fairways too, so if you know the course it will helps you game.

The Fairways were good for a rainy December 2013.Greens varied in condition & wetness, but be warned, they are fast, super fast in the dry weather (DJ's comments, always a very reliable source as DJ plays so many courses in Essex and organises games too, so he knows his stuff).Bunkers: some had standing water but all strategically positioned.

Warley is a 3 x 9 holes loops where you get to play various combinations as decided by the Proshop. This will soon change as the plan is to offer an 18 holes main course and a 9 holes too. I am sure this will work well. The surrounding Essex countryside is very beautiful and in Spring and Summer it must be even more attractive, more enjoyable to play.

Some places were a little slippery, will mention the 17th Par 3, Red Tee box where I took a giant slide in the mud, I think Damien B. and Andy C. from the group behind us may have witness the event but none of my 4 balls noticed anything, I had no offer of gallant rescue, not even Mr L's who was present today..... I shall not forgive him, well I did as he put all my muddy clothes in the washing machine when we returned to Twickenham.

Not sure why there is a cannon at the finishing hole, may be it is to announce the winning team. Does anyone know?Proshop: friendly reception and a good stock.Ladies Changing Room: very modern & attractive.Bar/Restaurant: nicely laid out with a drink/eat area and a relaxing seating area with leather comfortable leather seats. Terrace outside, not far from the cannon. Large Car Park with a long drive, as we left the Christmas lights were shining all the way to the main road. Very pretty. Nice venue for Society golf days, good deals to be had.

I cannot wait to return to this course as it has captured my heart: the layout, the Essex scenery and the warm welcome from the staff & members alike. The deal was good even if not what we expected, but it was Christmas Eve and the kitchen closed early but not a real problem as everyone understands that Father Xmas is only around once a year!!!

Lovely course some very interesting holes and in great condition for this time of year.It is a bit hilly but well worth the trek.The clubhouse hospitality was excellent very helpful friendly staff.It was excellent value for money. Hopefully we will be playing there again soon.

Could have been one of the toughest courses I have played, particularly the 17th uphill climb - oxygen needed at the top !! The course was in good nick considering the rain from the night before. We were very well looked after, both before and after the golf. Hope to play there again very soon.

I played here most recently on a Sunday afternoon (08 Sept) when the club was busy but with a friendly atmosphere. There are three 9-hole courses (hole no's 1-27), so we were told which two to play, as there was a junior competition in progress.

COURSE 1 is the least hilly and, I think, the easiest to play. There are several innocuous par-4's, but two par-3's that will grab your attention. The course gets more interesting at the 7th, with a drive over water to begin a tough trio of holes to finish.

COURSE 2, across the road, should be called The Himalayas! More demanding, but four holes require an uphill approach to the green where you cannot see where the pin is placed, so luck plays it's part. The best hole is the last - a long downhill sweeping par-5.

COURSE 3 is the longest and most difficult to play. Doglegs and trees make shot placement important, so your course management will be tested here. Hole 22 has an inviting downhill approach if your tee shot is good enough, but beware of the tiered sloping green. The long downhill par-3 to a green in front of the clubhouse makes for a memorable finishing hole.

Generally very good condition all round, with excellent greens, although some tee boxes on Course 2 didn't seem flat enough and were showing signs of wear. Great views across the Essex countryside - you can see a long way from here.

This was a specially priced internet deal, booked through TSG, but the club currently have offers, some including a buggy, which are worth taking advantage of. I will look forward to playing here again - my choice would be Courses 1 & 3.

Enjoyed this course, not too long but very hilly. Lots of great holes to play and the course was in excellent condition. Par 3’s are all medium length, with some good bunker’s placed to catch out the errant shot. Decent driving range where you can hit off grass makes a nice change. At £10 this was a bargain. Will definitely play again

Played the non-members 18 for £15 - money well spent.
This is a great course in fantastic condition (excluding the 11th tee box). Greens are a real challenge. You should play if possible, not sure there is another course locally offering better value. Shame about the attitude in the pro shop, but every silver lining and all that!

Warley park is made up of three 9 hole courses which you play two out of the three for 18 holes.The courses you play is decided by the club though, it is a nice course which has some challenging holes two of which you have to tee off over a large expanse of water approximately one hundred and twenty yards all in all worth a visit

Tucked away as this course appears to be, it's one that is worth a second visit. Unfortunately, this being the rainy season, it was not at it's best. Probably worth visiting in a drought!!

Found the course a bit disappointing as I thought it was going to be more interesting, course was in ok condition considering we are in November,greens playing very tricky and fast, pin position's where hard as well. After all that would go back again as I think the course probably is not looking its best at the moment. I gave it a five for value for money as our green fee was only £12.

This private members course is approx. 1.5m from my front door and for one reason or another I have never played it before. Why?! This is great little course with undulating fairways, tight green positions which are very well maintained. There are three 9 hole courses which can be played in combination to keep you interested and there is a couple great drives over water to test you. Not overly long but the terrain makes it a real challenge. Pricey at £40 (even midweek) but they are still doing some winter deals (£25) and with 2for1 vouchers it was a steal at £12.50. Cant wait to go back....
