Nice course for most players but high greenfee without member

Harpenden Common is nice a flat course with wide fairways giving players confidence off the tee but with tactically placed bunkers to keep things interesting. I think it's a great course for high to teens, but lower hcp players might find it too short and less challenging. Greens were very good for late April.

The club house and pro shop are nice, situated right by the very sizeable car park.

Downsides: Somewhat poor practice facilities (putting green, chipping area and warm up net). High greenfee at £78 on weekend (better courses out there for less) but a nice discount down to £30 if you play with a member. Front 9 are on The Common, meaning you need to watch out for walkers, horses, cars and cricket players ;)

Friendly and deceptive course

Joined as temp member with a view to full membership.
Half the course is on common land, which adds the additional challenge of dog walkers, horse riders and small roads crisscrossing the course. The other half is new and maturing nicely. A flat course that is easy walking and very narrow in places requiring accurate shots.
Signature hole is 18, a par 3 down an avenue of trees and green surrounded by bunkers to sides and back with clubhouse having a great view of this hole.
New clubhouse (no spikes) with good food.
There are no tee times and normally able to turn up and play.
Very friendly members and staff .
