DESCRIPTION:

Founded in 1923, the club has a long tradition to uphold, and prides itself on thewelcome it extends to all golfers. The course, an early stamping ground of Nick Faldo,is laid out over mildly undulating parkland and although relatively short by today's standards it is always well maintained and the narrow fairways and small greens willensure a challenge to even the most skillful of golfers.

Lovely little course...

Welwyn Garden City Golf Club is just lovely!

Well done the Greenkeepers, they clearly know what they are doing, as this is, without doubt, one of the best-maintained courses I have played on in the last few years.

Short-ish in length most golfers will enjoy playing here but don't wander off the fairways, as you will be playing out of the trees on your next shot.

Up and down in places (so watch the calf muscles) but so well looked after with nicely-cut fairways, tidy tee boxes, and pretty woodland all around.

Apparently, this is the young Sir Nick Faldo learnt his trade...I am already looking forward to going back!

Well presented challenge

Easy to find, somewhat limited parking, a good clubhouse with friendly and responsive staff. Nicely provisioned pro shop. No hard spikes on the patio, which overlooks the 18th.this is an interesting course, making good use of local topography. Be advised that elevation changes here are significant on most holes, so not an easy walking course.
Greens were slick and fair, bunkers sandy, first cut did tend to obscure the errant ball. An established tree lined course, which straddles a country road, so take care when crossing, cars were quick. Fairways were fair although the course could benefit from more signposting (for the casual visitor). A good challenge but a hard walk.

Course In Great Condition

I was hoping to see Nick Faldo and ask him for a few tips. Apparently he wasn't there today...
However the course was in good nick.. and the Bacon ?? roll was up to scratch....
My only grip or moan was the noise from the A1,,, on the opening holes ..
Otherwise a great course

Tight, but fair

This course has a relatively tight layout, no criss crosses, but slotted together well. Not the longest at 5864 off the yellows, but don't think a driver will enable you to muscle your way round the course. The greens are not that big, but they are true and quite quick. Like most courses at present (07/12) it has suffered from the rain, but not badly, probably worst hit are the bunkers as the sand is now more mud.

The clubhouse has a minuscule spike bar, but change your shoes and there is acres of lounge area. The meal on our society day was roast lamb and then crumble - if the rest of the food served is of that quality, it's worth a return for on it's own.

Practice areas - there is a driving range - take your own balls, a pitching area - not large and you are in fear of getting a flyer and hitting someone, and a putting green - and yes the greens ARE that quick!

Our society have decided it is worth a revisit, all in all an honest course that makes you welcome.
