Fantastic Course, Well Recommended

Chart Hills, much like its sister course, the Oxfordshire, is an American-style course with wide fairways, large greens and plenty of hazards. We played at a cost of £45 for a round with breakfast which was excellent value.

A very welcoming pro-shop, pointed out the bag-drop area, the first tee and then showed us to the spike-bar for breakfast. Breakfast was very hearty and the views through the large bay window of the 1st and 10th tees and 9th and 18th greens really kicked off what was an excellent day of golf.

Again, as with its sister, from tee to green the course was immaculately presented although the were some GUR. The challenge presented when standing on the dogleg first, with water in front of the tee, 4 large bunkers making a wide fairway look extremely narrow and a stream running along the right hand side to catch anything wayward. Holes 2, 4, 5, 7, 13, 14, 16 and 17 were particularly enjoyable with large bunkers (hole 5, 14 and 16), dog legs with water hazards protecting the inside corners (holes 2, 4 and 13) and the island green 17th making sure every hole is as varied as it was challenging.

The Leaderboard Golf Group appear to have perfectly developed the quintessential American-style courses in the UK and I would highly recommend a visit to them. I will definitely be heading for there two other properties soon!!

Fantastic Golf Course.......

Played here once before about 12 years ago when I first took up golf, in fact I probably shouldn't have been allowed on back then! However, now I can really appreciate it - you know when you walk though the clubhouse doors your going to have a good day. The course has plenty of twists and turns to test you, clean fairways and solid, well-draining greens - bearing in mind it was Dec and they played like its the middle of summer. In addition, despite there being more bunkers on the course than I've ever seen anywhere(On the 9th I counted 17?!)however,I only managed to find two all day. Food and hospitality were good too. Finally, don't miss the panoramic views from the spike bar beautiful to sit and enjoy a drink in after. A top day and well worth a visit - even in winter!

Great course, played on a discount special price

Played Chart Hills as part of a discount four-ball package so cost £40 each and at that price I have to say it is fantastic value for money. Course is great as long as you avoid the bunkers and the clubhouse has a great terrace to watch the 9th and 18th greens with a cold beer.
I think it is expensive normally but if you get the chance to play at £40-£50 then take it, you won't be disappointed

Great Day

A fantastic course, well worth the money which currently is £45 for the winter rate, this runs until the end of march.
My first visit to the course though I have been meaning to play it for some years.

The fairways have generous landing areas and the greens large with plenty of slopes, they also ran at a very good speed.
there are a "few" bunkers (138) but I managed to only find two greenside, if you aim for the wide parts of the fairways they certainly should not come into play of the tee.

Given the choice to play from the Blue tee's by the starter as h/c's were lower then 18.
The course yardage from these are 6449 compared to 5841 for the yellows and I would recommend playing from these if allowed.

First visit and shot 80 off a 14 h/c and sadly 3 putted the par 3 17th. so certainly not a daunting course.

Aside from the cost - excellent.

This is a pretty, excellently maintained course with superb supporting facilities.

There are, apparently 138 bunkers on the course but most of them are really only for show as they shouldn't be in play (running along the sides of fairways in what would otherwise be rough etc), but they certainly add to the impressive look of the course.

Staff always seem friendly and the service in the bar is great. The only pity is that the clubhouse doesn't really overlook the 18th green.

All in all a top notch club and well worth a visit but preferably using the Open Fairways card to get the 50% reduction on the £250 'tee time' green fee (ie four people - bizarrely the annual membership of Open Fairways is actually less than you save by getting 50% off one gree fee at Chart Hills!).
