Wonderful Course with great value for money

Lovely course where you can stay overnight and play at your convenience. The green fees are reasonable and good Value for money. Picturesque views and reasonably managed course (considering the wet conditions). Greens need some improvement but good for a round of please. Interesting flag positions and consistently challenge your approach shots accuracy

Year Round Golf

Coulsdon Manor is a pleasant, relatively flat course that whilst on the short side has some long holes. It is always well maintained. It's big plus is that it is open year round and in this very wet year with only one temporary green.
Not much of a clubhouse, but always good service and an enjoyable game.

Great Course - not as simple as it looks!

There's more than your share of bunkers, but not too difficult - although I managed to find most of them!

The rough IS rough but fairways are open and it's a lovely setting.

The £21 green fee quoted on our website is out of date. They honoured that on Saturday but will update to £25 from now on.

A lovely course, and good basic bar food to buy at the end. Very friendly staff!

Nice parkland course

Coulsdon Court is a nice enough parkland course, but I played here after a long spell of summer sunshine and maybe I didn't see the course at its best. A 5 hour round probably didn't help create a positive opinion either.

You start off with 6 or 7 holes which are pretty much up and down. There is then a spell of nicer looking holes, before you return to finish off on 4 or 5 more up and down holes again.

The fairways are generally fairly wide throughout, especially on the 'up and down' holes, and I'd imagine the course would be very suitable for mid to high handicappers. The greens I found to be okay, but nothing spectacular.

Atractive mature parkland course with 365 bunkers.....

The present golf course is situated on the grounds of old local Manor house which had 2000 acres of land. Various ownerships, death of the last owner (Edmund Byron, but not related to Lord Byron), the Estate was broken up, sold by lots etc. The park became the golf course(leased to Croydon Council), 150 types of mature trees providing a perfect setting with the addition of numerous bunkers (USED to one for each day of the year). A Harry Colt design, circa 1920/1938.

A pleasant layout, some spectacular views over Central London with wide well kept fairways, a few were sloping., lots of bunkers (did not count the CURRENT numbers) providing the challenge with the clumps of mature trees always strategically placed, dog legs etc. No water hazards, nor ditches but interesting all the same. Our party varying from 16 to 22 hdcp (not counting me) thought the course was attractive & perfect for a round of golf. I expect, summer play should provide high scores if the game is well managed as the course is not excessively long but the Driver is useful as there are 2 long Par 5s (over 500 yards).

My favourite:

Hole 3, Par 3 (170/158/149 yds), very picturesque and always a dilemma for strong hitters, but do they choose the right club ?????

Fairways: excellent condition. Some rough, better avoided, or take penalty drop..

Bunkers: everywhere.. some had standing water... but enough room to take a free drop within. There seemed to be a lot of bunker play today....

Greens had interesting shapes etc. but it was that time of the year, yet again, where work had been done and the putts were not going in as expected.

Easy way finding. Green Fees was £10 after 2pm, and plenty of time for a 4-ball to go round before dark. The course was empty, the sum was shining, the company was great fun. Pro-shop: friendly reception, stock a little depleted but all the necessary golf sundries available. Clubhouse is situated in what was the old Manor House, the décor needs a little attention but it feels cosy and one can appreciate the original features still so apparent. Works is in progress as I managed to speak to the Maintenance Manager who also told me about the "Gun Room", the "Basement Room" & the "Cellar" . A very attractive stained glass ceiling over the reception area, it certainly must have been a very pleasant place to live in the 19th/20th century.

Must mention the extremely pleasant outside terrace area, with hanging baskets still in full bloom around the L shaped veranda, a pergola covered with grape vine, a little wooden bridge leading to the golf course and the practice putting green. Will post some photos. Friendly staff and members, 2 bar areas + dining area. A popular place for golf stay, also for travellers & locals.

Would like to return as easily accessible, friendly all around & good value. I personally did not PLAY a proper round of golf due to injury, but managed some shots from a 100 yards mark and some putting & hope to use "my electronic pen" to keep the scores on my next visit...THE END... no, not quite...

For some unknown reason, I had programmed my GPS to Selsdon Park so made an interesting little detour, but that was a blessing in disguise as I discovered another superb golf course: PURLEY DOWNS, a "must play" course for many reasons... that will be another reading.

THE REAL END!

Coulsdon court

I played ccgc last week for the first time in about 15 years. I used to be a member there a long time ago so it was quite nostalgic !! The course itself was in pretty good nick but the greens had been treated and covered in sand so putting was difficult. It was a shame because I played pretty well apart from the several three putts :-( I think £24 is a bit expensive for a midweek round but I will go back.

Enjoyable Course

A very pleasant club in a lovely part of the country. An enjoyable parkland course with mature trees scattered aroud the course making many parts very picturesque. Although I was struglling I think you could score well here and I will be back. £12.50 for a 10.30am tee off means I really can't complain. Lots of activity from groundsmen which is always a good sign. I can only think of three mundane holes, really enjoyable day

Good for the high handicapper

Flat wide fairways, very forgiving, fairways & greens in good condition. Not particularly challenging. A low handicapper may find it a bit too easy.

Need to be convinced

Clubhouse looks fantastic from the outside but a huge disappointment inside. Very tired decor. Ladies changing room was crowded with 2 of us. That aside, hospitality was very good. Course was very boggy and the ladies tees were sometimes difficult difficult to find. Excellent par 3's and good for Nearest The Pin competitions. Par 5's not very long, so I would expect high scores from long hitters. I'm not sold on this course, so I might need to come back and have another go - but in much better weather - then I would probably see it in a different light! Value for money would be difficult to beat.

Very nice Hotel will look out for another deal in the summer

Liked the course even though its that time of the year for greens work and course maintenance.
not the longest but the greens and Bunkers made up for it.
would go back again for either a night away and maybe a couple of rounds very busy with weddings etc.

Pleasant parkland course

Decent course, greens were quite sandy (due to maintenance) - ironically most bunkers were not that sandy. Having said that it was good value for £25 with breakfast.

great value, shame about the greens

played here on 30/10/09, excellent condition weather wise and quite open course, only being 5700 yards i was expecting myself to break 100 quite easy, i didnt ---- so i guess i need an excuss --- i played quite bad front nine which always takes me a few holes to get warmed up but must say the greens were in bad condition(front 9) - too many 3 puts, back nine more enjoyable and used a 2-1 voucher so for £11.50 each no complaints - bar quite expenisive!!!!
