A good parkland course

Hurtmore GC is a moderately lenghty par 70 (ladies par 72) parkland style course in Hurtmore, Surrey. The course is 5,530/5,254 yards respectively off the white/yellow tees.

The course opened in 1992 and like many courses in the area was designed by Peter Alliss and Clive Clark. It is a proprietary pay and play course with a membership.

The course comprises 3 par 3s, 14 par 4s and only 1 par 5. The mens SSS is only 67 reflecting the fact that 13 of the 14 par 4s are less than 400 yards and most will involve only a short iron approach to the green!

Six of the holes involve water hazards. Well placed fairway bunkers are on the 3rd, 6th, 9th, 12th, 15th, 17th and 18th holes. The 18th has a daunting approach over water and front bunkers. I just made the carry then proceeded to hole the putt for a birdie.

I liked the par 3s.

The greens are huge, mostly raised, with no proper perspective of how deep they are. They are also very underlating.

The greens drain well and are firm but were still bumpy after hollow tining maintenance which hadn't fully recovered.

Most of the holes involve real or perceived doglegs from the tees which if your alignment is not right can lead to trouble. However, in reality the landing areas are generous.

This is a very easy walking course which my knee appreciates!

I played the course at the end of January 2019 on a bright but cold and very windy day. I look forward to playing it again on a nice warm summer day!

The green fee was only £14 for a twilight game post 2pm. Morning peak tee times were only £19. Very good vfm!

Catering at the course was reasonably good but I'm not sure if it is available every day. I thing they are a chef short.

As a well draining course encircled by numerous private members clubs, not always playable at this time of year, this appeared to be a very busy course! I'm sure members of other courses use this as their 'winter' go-to course!

Interesting tight course

This is the second time I have played Hurtmore. Again I enjoyed playing it. The course has some short holes on it, but it's defence is the undulating greens which are tough. 5 x 3 putts kept my gross score at 88.
The club facilities are pretty basic, staff were not over friendly. Food was very basic ok for a society, but a bit below average in my book.
Well worth a visit for the course but eat & practice else where.

Hurtmore revisited......and a Trophy to take home......

I do love Peter Aliss's designed golf courses, and Hurtmore is one of his creation: short but challenging enough to keep you interested till the lovely final hole, downhill Par 4 with a pond before the raised green which is also protected by bushes....and bunkers too.

Well today was my day, as I returned to play with the 1st Golf Society I ever joined, the "Dip" (or the Railway Bell Pub in leafy Hampton) and I won a beautiful glass Trophy, beating 18 other Golfers (men/women), worth mentioning on count back, and taking into account that for some unknown reasons, the Yellow tees were moved forward and the Red tees were moved back, so on about 9 holes in total, Women did not gain any advantage.........but I was lucky enough to be a Winner on the hottest day of the Year so far.

The course, was in great condition, the greens absolutely superb and 3 putts or or more was not unusual even by the lower handicapper and very faaaaaaassssstttt.... but the Glass Trophy is mine to cherish and I love it. A great 19th hole with this lovely mixed crowd and then the usual meal, more drinks at the Railway Bell in Hampton with the presentation .....a very fine day indeed. Will post some photos.

The full English breakfast was excellent & a good deal was negotiated by our Society.

THE END.........

Not too long and relatively straight forward.

I have played Hurtmore many times. You always get a friendly reception and the food is good! I certainly feel that it is worth a visit.

A nice relaxing course to play

This isn't the hardest of courses but having said that it was very enjoyable to just go out, relax and just simply enjoy playing golf. No hole is that troublesome. Maybe the 18th with the pond protecting it but for once I laid up to 150. 7 ironed on to the green and took my two putts. Unlike one of our 4 ball who rolled into the water and the other two who duffed their chips in to it...twice each. I'm just showing off.

It was nice and dry, maybe to dry, and a local player said it actually played better with the recent wet weather as the ground had a bit of give. It was still a nice change to not get muddy, at all.

It's a short course with only one par 5, and only three par 3's and a few of the par 4's are drivaeable but this isn't a critisism as I said it was just nice to go out, hit the ball and enjoy this relaxing course.

All the staff were pleasent. The bar serves drinks, the pro shop has golf stuff in it. What more do you want?

The putting green is ok and a couple of nets to hit a few, no range.

I got this through tee off times for £15 pp as we were a four ball and well worth it. I will definitely come back and this is one for those wet days knowing it will be playable.

I played off 25 today and scored 41 points and hit my lowest shot tally of 90. So, as I have said, not a hard course.

I was so nice with the recent hard courses I have played to just simple enjoy the afternoon.

Small in length but great fun

i play Hurtmore on a fairly regular basis as it's easy to get a tee time at a weekend and very good value for money compared with many courses in Surrey which require a bank loan to play them at the weekend. Hurtmore only has one par 5 and it's mostly par 4's. All the holes are good fun and while in the tee box, make you think that each hole is a potential birdie opportunity. Unfortunately this never works out for me!

In conclusion, good course, value for money, welcoming, friendly and good drainage so an all year round course

short, open course

Fairly open course that would probably appeal to higher handicappers. I've hit the ball all over the place from the tees on some days, but still managed to go low through chipping and putting well. Most of the holes are fairly short with one or two exceptions, the main exception being the 3rd which is a monster long par 4.

Good greens, very reasonable green fees and a decent clubhouse.

Pretty Little Course

Hurtmore, is a revelation, short; yes, challenging; yes. It does help to have local knowledge as I can imagine it wouldn't be too difficult to lose your way around. Clever use of available space, undulating parkland, not too many mature trees. Actually the course was in fine condition, made more pleasant by the spring sunshine. Greens were fair enough, although would have benefitted from pitch-mark repairs (remember to make one and fix two). Some clever borrows required full attention for best results. Amenities are good here, just off the A3, easy to find, good parking, friendly pro shop and good bacon sandwiches (also good looking lunch menu).

VFM; yes... worth playing again to hone up short game, not too much of a walk, so benefits the skilful, high handicappers can do well here. Watch out for water on the 18th (I forgot and ended up wet).

Well worth a second trip - next time I am in the area.

Short / well laid out Course

Hurtmore is one of my favourite (ondulating parkland type) as it is not too long, with good club selection one can score well that is if the putts go in.

Although it is a short course, it is suitable for all types of golfers, lots of bunkers near the fast greens , interesting water hazards, the 16th and 18th are my favourite holes

The course was in good condition, the sun was shining, good company, so it was an enjoyable round.

Friendly Pro shop and Clubhouse. Sunny terrace overlooking the practice green and the 18th green.

Good value on a Sunday after 1.00pm

Hurtmore Golf Club

Situated just off the A3 (literally, some of the holes are pretty close to the road), this is a short but tight and demanding course. It was well kept and in good condition when played on 27th June. The greens were in good order and ran true. The clubhouse is friendly and there is a deal for including a meal in with the green fee. We paid £24.00 for a round plua a one-course lunch.
