Enjoyable challenge - recommended

The Cathedral Course at Chichester GC is a tricky parkland course , par 71 from the yellow tees; SSS69.

The course and greens were in excellent condition. Greens were a good size, undulating, medium paced but problematic. There are water hazards on a high number of the holes; I counted at least 11. Many were ditches all of whom were in play in summer conditions. Once a ball is observed entering the vicinity of a ditch there is a 99% chance it will not be found.

The course is well bunkered; most fairway bunkers are shallow and play-outable; whereas many of the so-called greenside bunkers were not actually greenside but positioned to give the impression that they were. Once played this fact can be readily mitigated. There are many doglegs to navigate. The course is a very easy level walk. There is a 600+ yard par 5 hole and four beautiful par 3s, all over or adjacent to water hazards.

Chichester GC is part of the three course Maple Group being linked with Hill Barns (Worthing) and Horton Park (Epson).

I played the course in May 2017 having entered their Seniors Open competition. The competition entry fee was £30 including coffee/18 holes/ and a two course buffet style lunch. Excellent VFM. The competition was very well supported by many of the nearby courses in West Sussex; Bognor Regis, Brighton & Hove; Cowdray Park; Old Thorns; Blackmoor etc.

A very enjoyable golfing challenge and social event.

Great Sunday Morning Course

Two courses here; The Cathedral, the 'better' and longer course. We played The Tower course; gentle course; nice and flat, not many very long holes. All very nice but the 17th is waiting for you; long, narrow, water either side. Very pleasant and will play again. Both the Pro shop and clubhouse are good as you would expect from a popular course.
