Great course

Played here on the 6th of October. It is a very hilly course but a definite must play if you are in the area.
Great clubhouse although I was told that it has reduced in size due to the upstairs being taken over to accommodate the wine growing project that is ongoing there.

Good course layout and I enjoyed playing it. Lovely views on some of the holes.

Greens were a little slow but was told that they had been hollow tynned recently . . They were really slow indeed compared to my own clubs greens.

Overall a great round on a great course. It was that good that I am back there tomorrow for another round . . .and this time at least I will know where I am going!!

Great course...

I have had Mannings Heath Golf Club on my radar for many years and when invited to play with a TSGer and Mannings Heath Golf Club member (Tony Moss), I jumped at the chance...

The Clubhouse is very impressive and has a relaxed and sumptuous oldie/worldy atmosphere, but the patio area is what makes this place stand out!

you can sit here after your round and enjoy the surroundings, on lovely garden furniture and with waitress service.

Now to the Manning Heath Golf Course - The Waterfall

On first sight, the tee view on the first hole gives you a good indication of what is to come. A Par 4, downhill, then uphill, to a flat protected green (which were all excellent).

The course is full of undulations but even though I had walked nearly 10k by the end of my round, it didn't feel like it was hilly whilst we were playing. Although I felt it the next day... I guess this is because all the holes vary so differently.

A Parkland course, this track favours the lower handicapper, I think you will struggle if you're more than 20.0.

There are some superb holes though and beautifully maintained, including two of only three VERY pretty par 3's.

All the tee boxes and bunkers were in excellent condition and raked every morning, despite COVID.

Would I return, definitely!

BUT... whilst the Guest fee at £30 is very reasonable, I don't believe the Visitor fee of £65 is fair. Maybe £45 at a push but no more.

However, this is very much a members' course, so I suspect they aren't targeting the 'nomadic' golfer, and that price, is maybe to deter some.

Big thanks to Tony for the invitation to Manning Heath, I thoroughly enjoyed the course and the company and thank you to Gary and Damian for making it 'social'!

Excellent track, well worth playing.

This is a quality course which you recognise as soon as you roll up. Clubhouse is fantastic, pro shop is the only one I have seen with their own wine on the racks! The practice facilities are fantastic, bit of a trek but worth it. Grass range which I love. Played Waterfall which is a great course, challenging but fair. There are only 3 par 3s, but they are spectacular holes and a joy to play, greens were fast and true. Final hole is a view to behold but a tough finish. I loved it so much that I joined! Play it if you get the chance.

Very good condition & excellent value for money

A very impressive complex, all superbly maintained. The course is enjoyable to play, not too long or hilly, but tricky enough to remain interesting. Only £12.50 after 2 p.m. so terrific value.

Kingfisher Course - practically unplayable in the wet

First the good - club house and service were excellent, really nice breakfast and friendly staff.

Then the bad - greens on the Kingfisher were very mossy in places, one green was fast to the hole then dead slow above it as there was a change from grass to moss.

Finally the ugly - the mud, following all the snow and rain this may not be a massive surprise but it was surprising that the course was open and allowed trolleys/buggies when the course was so wet and muddy that I nearly lost my shoes walking down the fairway.

The members 'Waterfall' course is supposed to be a cracker, and is in the UK top 100 - and when combined with the excellent service must be a cracking day out.

Boggy, unplayable at times, could be nice if maintained and drained

This course should not have been open on 2nd Feb. It was waterlogged and unplayable on many of the holes and my trolley was almost impossible to use at times. Bunkers were almost all out of play as they were water features! There should have been at very least a trolley ban as the walks between holes were shocking. Given what a fantastic course the Waterfall is it is obvious where the club are spending their money. Shame as it has the makings of a nice course, but it drains very poorly and the greens are maintained badly. Delicious cooked breakfast in the excellent clubhouse did not make up for the course conditions. Would like to try again in the summer to seee if it plays better when dry.

Kingfisher Course

I played on the Kingfisher course after a LOT of rain had fallen recently, but generally the course had held up pretty well. There were a few greens with puddles on, likewise a number of bunkers, but given the amount of rain recently I could understand why there was surface water. The fairways were soft, but along with the greens they were in very good condition.

The fairways were fairly inviting, and there weren't many holes where you couldn't get away with a slight mishit. It's certainly not an "up & down" course and there are a number of good holes. It's not spectacular, but it makes for an enjoyable 18 holes.

I think it was the 17th green which appears to have a 3 bladed windmill propeller buried under it. You'll understand me when you see it!

The clubhouse it pretty gorgeous, and there are ample practise facilities there. Add in the views of the surrounding countryside and the feeling of being "away from the madding crowd", and you have a decent course to while away a few hours.

Poor Conditions Considering the Weather

Considering the decent weather we have had over recent weeks and the fact I had been told the course was good, I was disappointed. The course had been cut up by the combination of deer feet cutting up the course and buggies being allowed to be used on really sodden ground. Also difficult to get any footing on the slippery surface. Cost in midweek is cheap @ £9.00 so maybe better value for money then. I would not go back in a hurry as a long drive for an average and not overly interesting course.

Good course for higher handicapper

In very good condition considering dryness of ground. Watering of greens haphazard causing variable ball control.

Nice Course

Mannings Heath - Kingfisher Course is a very nice and well laid out course. Very well kept fairways and greens and some very tricky puts if you are on the wrong part of the greens. When we played the course most of the fairway bunkers were GUR which was a shame. This course is well worth a visit and you can get some very good deals if you keep an eye on their website.

Will be going back.

I played the Kingsisher on Sunday 18th April and the Waterfall the following day. Both courses are a challenge but the Waterfall is definately a much sterner test. The courses were in very good condition but I'm told that in another three weeks or so they will be at their best. We stayed in Fuller's Cottage which is 20 seconds from the clubhouse on the club grounds. The cottage has four queen size bedrooms and makes for a very comfortable stay. The staff could not have been friendlier and the food was spot on. A thoroughly enjoyable couple of days and will definately be going back.

kingfisher course

Have not played at Mannings Heath for about 5 years, Waterfall course now members only although used to be accepted on 2 - 1 offers.
I could not remember the course at all and was told that it can get very boggy after it has rained, THIS IS NOT AN UNDERSTATEMENT, i came off looking like i had just ran an assault course and we only had a nights rainfall(and not terrential) the previous night.
Still enjoyed it and would go back although not many spectacular holes(15th being my pick of the best.
Cant believe I FIVE, yes FIVE putted the 10th AAAAAAAAARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.

Most players do like playing Gatton Manor, but i would now put this one just before that course, £16.50 for a weekday or a 2 ball playing for £8.25 each when using open fairways card you cant go wrong ever at this course. The course is a test on all levels and you do need a good short game as there are some serious approach shots to be made... Remember they only sell chips upstairs and not down in the den.......Just to let you know the WATERFALL course has gone back to members ONLY
