Langdon Hills

Been playing here a lot lately and it's in really good condition, greens are superb, good speed and lots of slope and breaks. the par 3's are long and with tricky greens, yet to hit one in 4 rounds!
I hadn't played here before this summer, but I'm told it's improved a lot. Can highly recommend.

Contineous improvement.

Having been a member for 13 years, I was looking forward to playing again, since the last time I played here was over a year ago. There has been more mature trees planted, some quality paths laid and a new road layout into the course. The condition is good and green staff were busy working all over the course. The greens were being holitined but still ran true and had good pace. The clubhouse facilities are excellent and there is good practice facilities.

Worth a visit.

On the whole the course is very good. They appear to have some more trees to the first hole, they don't get in the way but have changed the view. The greens were in good condition although a bit hard. My only gripe would be the bunkers. I only visited one but the sand was more like top soil and the amount of stones in there would rival Southend Sea front! I have not given the clubhouse a high score because I didn't use it, it may be very good who knows?

Good round considering the weather of late

A good layout but not for the a windy day, very open and plays havoc with the ball (might be me as well. Only down side was the greens had been spiked and affected the run of the ball when putting, needs to be done I just chose the wrong day to play it. Good selecting of beers at the 19th.

Great course

Had a great game, weather was cold, with snow, wind and some sunshine. Course was in great condition, greens playing fast. some great holes including the par 3's. Great final hole with water behind the green (which I found). A very good course. Will be back.

Great Choices - and ongoing 'improvements'

Have played this course on a ragular basis as part of the Comedians Golfing Society annual fixture lists. Great venue for charity days (onsite Hotel complex) great clubhouse and catering is splendid. There are always deals the be done here so don't be afraid to ask. Staff are friendly and welcoming, regulars are also welcoming. Now to the interesting bits... Langdon/Hornden (if memory serves) is the regular combination. There have been some ongoing 'improvements' new tree plantings and old hedge removals, some big trees have been taken out of play.
All in all this is now an easier course to play when the weather conditions allow. Great views of estuary and surrounding countryside but can be open to the elements (rain, wind, sleet, snow, fog, and sunshine all on the same hole one year).

Good challenges though, fairways well kept, semi rough is or can be a bit punishing (so stay on the fairways). There are plenty of hazards to avoid, water and diches abound, The bit I like most is that the greens are beautifully manicured - and it is possible to do very well when putting. Not to say that anything is easy but the undulations on the greens are less extreme than on the practice greens.

Good scores are possible - most oles are interesting and there's 1 par 3 that looks innocuous, but when the wiond blows it can be the longest 160 yards in the world, and so easy to float over the trees and be lost for ever... hmmm In fact all of the Par 3s are a challenge in their own way.

Be bold keep straight(ish) and you could come back with a good score... be too bold and you can lose a lot of balls (easily).

A course for the thinkers, be aware that there are some hills and it is a good walk... just remembering that from hole 10 to 14 there is water in play - great sequence...

Good course for long hitters though, as long as second shots are good, pitching and chipping is good and putting is above average you'll have a good day out...

Lots of car parking, but it is quite a stroll to the clubhouse and first tees, and golf shoes aren't allowed inside the clubhouse...

Pick a good weather day for your visit, otherwise you might be blown away...

great course in very good condition

The views at langdon is fantastic, the club makes you feel very welcome, it was a joy to play. The horndon is a link type course which suits my game the Bulphan is tighter and has challanging greens.

a real joy to play

Worth a visit

Played Horndon/Langdon. Very impressed with Langdon, tee boxes, fairways and greens all in excellent condition. Horndon could do with some tlc, at least a first cut of rough! Would definitely go back and worth visiting if you haven't played there before, great value at £15.

One of the better courses

The course is in very good condition. However, although wayward shots should be penalised, it is difficult to understand why balls that are five feet off the fairway get lost.
Maybe it was my fault for missing the fairway.
Greens were very good.

Prefer Langdon and Bulphan, but like Horndon as a Links course.

Want to go back soon........

There I was thinking I'd played this course and surprise, surprise I was wrong...odd seeing as its only 5 or 6 miles from my front door! This is more of a complex than a course, 3 x 9 holes, of which we played The Horndon and The Langdon. The Horndon is a bit of an 'up & down' track and has no particularly outstanding holes, bar a tricky uphill Par 3, 8th. However, once you switch courses it's another world entirely. Well sculpted, undulating fairways with great views of The City, I really enjoyed The Langdon. I also played well which always helps, but the greens held up nicely in the wet and I am looking forward to returning in the Summer. Good value at £15.23(!), modern Clubhouse and a great 'mini breakfast' for £3.50!

I would go back @ £15..anymore then £25 I would think about it?

"Horndon" Newish course with open Fairways (Links type)
Fairways a bit bear in places. Bunkers could do with more sand. Green reuire a bit TLC

"Langdon". Greens, Bunkers & fairways in good condition.(the better half of the 18 course)

Both courses have holes guarded by water front, left & right, so a little bit of thought comes into play.
The course has a good design to them.
The Quality went down only because of The Horndon
Practise putting green & driving nets & friendly staff. I would come again.
