Not good

A bland and uninteresting course. More a bog than a golf course with x4 temporary greens and small, muddy, slippery tee boxes. Just a horrendous slog, not a winter course by any stretch.

course in very poir conditiin

beutifull setting ,very tight course where you have to think about your shots. However, course wasnt maintained properly. fairways wasn't even cut, tee boxes were awful,Greens were ok though. i paid a twighlight green fee of £19 where it should be £27.50. Even £19 was to much. The correct price for this course in this condition shoild be £15

Superb challenging Course

I love Manor of Groves. This was the third time I had played the course, in very tough conditions. The club house is open plan but very roomy. Staff are very friendly and can't be more helpful. The course is one of the best in Essex. Very challenging long par fours and a brutal 18th par 5. The course was in very good condition. I would highly recommend this course!

START TO FINISH, A GREAT WEEKEND !!!

A Group of 8 of us went to The Manor of Groves for a "Sunday Driver" on 21st & 22nd June. What can I say, it was superb from start to finish. We turned up Sunday Midday for a 1.20pm tee time, up till our tee time, we used the pro shop, clubhouse bar for brunch and visited reception; everywhere we went we were greeted with a smile, nothing was too much trouble. Then onto the course. Every hole was in great shape, tee boxes flat, fairways manicured and greens absolutely spot on, probably the truest greens I've ever played !! Dinner & Breakfast carried on in the same vein, superb food, served with a smile. Before the Monday round, we visited the health club. It was well equipped with exercise machines, sauna, solarium, steam room, Jacuzzi and a massive swimming pool, you just couldn't fault anything. Again, the Monday 18 holes was exactly the same as the day before and all this for just £88, WHAT A BARGAIN !! If you want a great round of golf or getaway for a day or so, then don't look any further than The Manor of Groves, you won't be disappointed !!!

Good golfing test on underused course

Played mid morning on a Wednesday and didn't encounter another golf within striking distance in front or behind, surreal as the golf course is great fun and in really good condition, well worth a do!

2nd time around and..

Second time of playing here, and will happily return again. Played in January and swore not to come back as it seemed that (in my tiny mind!) it was not very good, but obviously it was all in my mind and had a relatively OK round. It is a fair test, it is not the most demanding and the greens are not overly interesting. BUT play with a group out to enjoy themselves and the course is worth a visit.

Yes should the opportunity arise, I will return for another blast - hopefully the Atlantic will have receded back to where it is supposed to be and this course, like most others will be even more playable.

Shortish, tight and testing!

Nice modern clubhouse with decent facilities. Good putting green, one driving net and a practice area between the 18th and 1st holes where you provide your own balls, probably only long enough for irons.

The course itself is pretty well designed. You never feel you're on top of other groups, yet it's clearly been quite a feat getting 18 holes into the space. Greens in super condition, not overly interesting other than the three-tiered 13th. The 9th tee shot, parallel to the road in and out, will make those who hit the ball left to right sweat....

Played in hot, dry conditions and it was pretty tough to work out the ideal places to land the ball from the tee and more importantly toward the greens. Lots of dog-legs. Scoring would be easier with familiarity, for sure. A course that rewards those with a good short game more than the blasters, even more so when the greens are tough to hold after a dry spell.

Would gladly play again, a tough test requiring much plotting and use of everything from driver down to 6-iron off the tees.

A good test.........

Played this course a few years ago and was keen to return. A well maintained course with good quality greens especially given the recent weather. Plenty here to test you with some very long par 5's and some tricky par 4's and some very pretty par 3's. Some great DB&B deals to be had if you want to stay over at the hotel. Not sure I will be rushing back until I have sorted my fairway play but well worth a visit! :-)

Not an easy course

This is a course that will make you think all the way round.Lot's of trees, ditches and water - You do not want to go into the rough - it's a killer. A real challange for the ladies with the long carries - Not for the faint hearted. You will come back for more....
