Worth a visit if you've not played here.

The course feels quite long and straight. it's driver off most tees but not fun when you miss.
A beautiful setting.

Under new management

Hampton Court Palace is now part of the Get Golfing Charity group and one can see that money is getting invested both into the Clubhouse, the course & practice facilities as well.

There will be a new "posh" restaurant, Crab & Lobster, opening in May I believe, upgraded Clubhouse Bar/restaurant facility. Plan for a roof terrace overlooking the Royal Park, the present terrace is going to be extended.

Outdoor range being re-seeded and practice putting green re-laid & re-shape.

Nice to see changes & improvements, that is the 2nd Club under Get Golfing umbrella that I visited, I am impressed with their vision, all the money they make get re-invested or goes to charity.

At the moment the course is pretty much the same, the layout of the holes may revert to what it was years ago, well before my time at the Club.

At the present time, due to Covid-19 and building work, there is a "horse box" , called BOX Nineteen that serves as a Proshop, Reception & refreshments place. Very friendly staff (Steve & Jamie) who seem to look forward to their new upgraded surroundings.

If you like a well drain course, inland type feel and playing with Hampton Court Palace in the background with fallow deers roaming, this is the place to visit. By the way, local rule is: in a bunker if your ball is in a hoof mark, you can pick and place without penalty!!!!!!!!

THE END......

Very nice Parkland Course...with Deer!

Hampton Court Golf Club is really Henry 8th back garden. The course weaves beside the salubrious Palace. At 6,200 its not overly long, but has some tough holes. Some of the par 4's are well over 400 yards, so getting off the tee with a big drive is very needed. The greens had been hollowtined and were not at their best, but that was my only complaint. You share this course with over a thousand deer, so the bunkers do have a lot of hoof marks in them. The fairways were in very good order but very little run at this time of year. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The food was superb, highly recommended. I would return to Hampton Court maybe when the greens are running a bit truer?

Awkward to find and not worth the effort.

An awkwardly located course for most people, even using a Satnav. Having finally found it, you'll find a longish driveway to a large enough car park. Good eatery awaits, and pro shop is very accommodating. The course itself was not particularly good IMO. Greens were adequate, but nothing special, uneven and 'fluffy' There were no memorable holes whatsoever, quite uninteresting by and large.
A course where a 2 hour drive...for me, was certainly not rewarded. I'll not bother to play it again.

Lovely setting, well worth a visit

Lovely course, well maintained fairways and greens. Bunkers can be a bit patchy but stay out of the rough. Lucky if you find your ball on most holes. Still, playing golf with the deer looking on and the House on the background the course is wel worth a visit

Enjoyable in great setting

Parkland course with he added attraction of the Palace in the background and the deer roaming about. Some quiet challenging holes and I would quite happily play here again.

Wet & windy!

Not the best day to play the course for the first time, but good company and a reasonable score made it worthwhile! Too many temporary greens (8) and Hurricane/Storm Jonas gave us a good battering! would like to play again in better conditions, will probably have a more favourable review then! Staff were excellent, food in Clubhouse top nosh!

Different

Clubhouse and facilities were superb.
The surroundings of the course are very pretty and the number and close proximity of the deer on the course was a new experience.
Greens were quick but thought the rest of the course wasn't brilliant and very expensive for what it is (guess that's down to the area).
Not sure I'll be back but worth visiting at least once.

Links type feel

The greens here were in very good condition, as was the course in general, with lots of patches of long rough. Though in general, our group found the majority of the balls which didn't find the fairway. Very open to the wind, and had a kind of links feel to it in places. My only negative comment would be, as a four ball who had never played here, the signage to find your next hole was poor or mostly non-existant, to the point we played the wrong hole at one point. Something one of the guys working on the course, told us had frequently happened on that particular hole!

Worth a visit

Not played here before but heard good about and the name suggests it would be. So I joined a complementary 2ball. Fairways good but i hear in summer the rough would be overgrown. Long course but plays short this week as its very dry. The greens werent good, very bouncy, got a bit better on back 9 but if they'd made them any more delicate they would not withstand with all the deers around!, Hundreds of them.
Easy course, flat, no water just bunkers but proper sands. I'd come back here but a royal quality it is not.

Not at its best

Thanks to the recent sunny weather the course was exceptionally dry, with very little sign of the colour green across the course. I'm guessing I didn't see it at its best. That said, a lot of other courses have handled the weather for better than this one.

I was told by my playing partners that Hampton Court Palace looks a far better course during normal British weather, but I found it very flat and featureless. On a lot of the holes the fairways just seem to be made up by cutting a route through a mass of long grass.

The greens certainly weren't the best I've played on this year, and the bunkers had barely any sand in them.

This isn't a course I will be rushing back to, and I certainly don't think anyone paying full price for their green fee would be getting value for money.

Excellent course

You cannot help to be inpressed by the long driveway through exquisite parkland - matched by the parking facilities which are are good and ample. The staff i the pro shop were very good and attentive and I was so taken with it the place that I signed up for a 30 day membership for £99 -- allows 7 day membership at all Crown Golf venues.
The course itself gives one the feel of a mixture of parkland and links holes - potentially better the second time around unless you're playing with anyone familiar with the layout (needs local knowledge on some of the longer holes). Fairways and greens in great condition, although some of the bunkers need more sand. The course is free draining which makes it almost entirely weatherproof.

Superb greens & gorgeous Swedish fiction writer........

Hampton Course Palace golf course was in truly great condition on this sunny but windy Spring day.

I had an invite to join 2 friendly Crown golf members playing the course today via a connection from another TSG member (Gary C., you may remember I wrote about Gary on numerous occasions: split trousers, hit on the head by my sand shot, and hole in one....), just to mention once more how the TSG community give you the opportunity to meet new and interesting characters and today it was Per, a handsome Swedish writer (cannot wait to read his books).

The course was wearing its Spring coat: nicely cut very lush green fairways, 1st cut not too penalising, the Spring rough: well it is difficult to find one's ball once in there, the Summer is worse as the rough is not normally cut, so better to keep to fairways defined by guiding postS as this course is an inland links.

The green were truly superb: receptive, beautifully cut, a pleasure to pitch, chip or putt on them.

The bunkers are very deep, some repairs going on on some of the edges, the sand is not deep enough to my liking, but I managed my 4 sand shots very well.

Deers were present by the 4th hole: the course in on Royal parkland.

Very pleasant modern Clubhouse, excellent food choice/quality, coffee 1st class, so is the service.

Friendly reception in well appointed Proshop.

Excellent practice facilities: large open range, chipping/putting green + an extra putting green by the lovely outdoor terrace.

Part of the Crown Golf.

I have today taken a One month trial, as this course is only a few miles from my home and I like playing this challenging course but I am torn apart as I have my favourite course 40 miles further away (J6 M25), wont mention a name or I may get into trouble...but I am sure you know the one.....think TSG Champsionship day...

My score for today's game will be revealed later tonight.

THE END of a short review...

Henry VIII is watching you!!!!

A challenging inland links type & parkland course set in the magnificient grounds of Hampton Court Palace.

You feel Henry VIII's presence on each hole in this vast royal park where deers roam freely. Most fairways have 2 markers to define your aim from the Tees as it is all so open.

All greens are well protected so you need to be accurate or very good at escaping from the deep, very deep well placed bunkers. Some greens are tiered but cannot remember which ones. All greens were being hollow tined(23.03.12), so it made putting difficult and did not reflect one true skills.

My favourite holes:

13th Par 4, big trench & mount to the well guarded green.

14th Par 5 is a long hole with a vale and interesting approach to the green.

17th Par 3 : fantastic par 3 guarded by 6 extremely deep bunkers (central one being Captain charity).

18th Par 4 : interesting long finishing hole with 5 bunkers in waiting.

The only thing I personally did not like is the "way finding",if one looses sight of the Palace or the Clubhouse (remember the park is vast) one gets totally desorientated: too much coming back on oneself (criss-cross ???)

Fantastic modern and very pleasant Clubhouse (recently built as the original was burnt down), with a terrace where deers will come up rgiht up to you whilst enjoying the 19th hole and admiring the sun set.

Well stocked Proshop (and yes they have Ladies Golf Clothing !!!)

Friendly staff and members.

Large car park, vast open practice facilities.

A lovely course where one wants to return as I expect it will be a different play with different weather conditions, being so open.

We had a perfect warm Spring afternoon and great golf.

An added bonus: going home when sun light had gone, I had to stop my car for 5 minutes and let a huge herd of young deer cross the road, a very unique and pleasant experience.

A perfect day !!!

Hampton Court Golf Club

This is a flat parkland course with fairly accomodating fairways so if you can keep the ball reasonably straight making your handicap is less of a challenge than many other courses. Probably tougher in the summer as when the rough has grown any wayward shot is likely to be severely punished.
Enjoyed our round but it was expensive (for non-Crown golfers) and can think of many better courses to play for less ££.
