Great quite testing course a bit hilly.

The Hoebridge course is in lovely condition. Varied and interesting. A couple of hills one being the 17th which is very testing. The clubhouse was closed due to covid. The pro shop is very well stocked. The staff are great. The driving range has ball tracers. Good practice areas. All in all a very nice club.

Hilly parkland

Very friendly on arrival, starter was very chatty. The fairways, like many needs another year to recover from last years spectacular summer. Greens are in reasonable condition and the surrounding bunkers have more sand than their sister course in Redbourn.

Having played Twisted Stone recently, I was expecting something similar, but better maintained. Wrong! This course may be in the same vicinity, but as different as chalk and cheese. This course is well maintained, busier and more friendly. It also has a built-in cardiac workout, especially when you get to the 17th.

All in all, I would revisit if in the area (especially with the Burhill discount)

Excellent challenging but affordable golf course

The 18 hole course is challenging for all levels with well maintained fairways and greens. The bar area is nice with a good selection of food and drink.

Excellent Pakland Course - Recommended

This is a par 72 parkland course slightly unconventionally structured, ie 5 par 3s, 8 par 4s and 5 par 5s. The SSS from the yellow tees 70.

*****

This is a well laid out pay and play type course, very undulating in places; and with some awkward blind shots. The teeboxes, fairways and greens were in excellent condition.

*****

I/we played the course on a £45 for 2 deal including a buggy. This made the deal excellent VFM. Buggy hire is normally £22 on its own. Given the course undulations, especially the 17th, and my dodgy knee, I would only want to play it again using a buggy.

*****

The golf centre also has a 9 hole course and an 18 hole par 3 course together with a driving range and a good sized pro shop. The course is part of the Burhill Group.

*****

The welcome from the pro shop and catering service is excellent though food prices are more akin to a Silvermere type general restaurant facility rather than a members club facility.

*****

This is a very enjoyable golfing experience and is recommended, especially as a possible socities venue.

Long, attractive & warm welcome on a sunny 31st Dec 2015

Hoebridge GC is not even 40 years old, but mature and inviting. Part of the Burhill Golf & Leisure, in a vast estate with established woodlands & adjacent farmland. The course is long, very long but very attractively laid out.

A course I played many years ago, before my time with TSG, so I never wrote a review. In fact I did not remember much about it apart that is was located on the "Old Woking Road", near Pyrford, Traditions, West Byfleet & New Zealand GC.

Hoebridge is a golf centre in fact, as it offers attractions to family (a Pirate Pitch & Putt), a short Academy course and a Par 3 I think. So well geared to the need of the 21st century. It also has a Gym/Spa housed in the large Clubhouse, with several areas for food an drinks. Breakfast is superb, it is well worth arriving a little early to sample the food on offer. I recommend the poached eggs on brown toast. I was also tempted by the Lemon & Poppy seeds muffins (I bought three to take home)....

Back to the technical stuff:

Hoebridge guarantees no temporary Tees or Greens, but today the Greens would have been better avoided as they were extremely wet, spongy & bubbly with lots of pitch & spike marks, the ball got deeply plugged several times.

The fairways were fine & very playable, the fairly numerous bunkers had nice sand , only a few had standing water. The rough was quite tough, today at times the wind rose and did defect the ball flight.

A great variety of holes, some with wide open fairways to very tight approach on uphill reach. Five (Six for the Red) Par 5s, very attractive Par 3s. A pleasant & flowing layout, easy to find next tee, apart from 9th which could easily be confused with the 12th for someone playing the course for the 1st time..... It did happen to my Group many years ago and we were quickly marched off by a fairly ferocious member...... Interesting dog legs, some blind holes with guiding post, some inclines will keep your muscles toned. The finish of the first nine takes you back to the Clubhouse, very useful for a quick toilet stop.

The scenery is very attractive, peaceful too, with lots of wildlife due to the careful management of the woodlands & the course itself with a lot of care for the ecology and conservation. The modern Greenkeeper has a lot more work these days than just keeping the grass short... I think at Hoebridge, they have succeeded in providing a great balance on all the above.

The Driving range is excellent, with targets and markers. Gary H. kindly shared his basket with me. The spongy putting green was a true reflection of today's real greens.

The Proshop is huge, extremely well stocked whether golf accessories or clothing (Men/Ladies). Today there was a sale & bargains to be had......

Good cloackrooms/changing rooms with modern appeal.

Very large car park with an equally big overflow.

I believe there is a thriving membership & lots of attractive joining offers to tempt all.

The last day of 2015 was an incredibly warm & sunny day, very pleasant for our two 4 balls organised by David H. Thanks for that. Unfortunately my Team (David & I) lost our Matchplay against Paul S. & "bandit" Daniel J., they did deserve to win, they both played very well.

A course I shall return to play, soon but when less rain around to truly enjoy the greens approach & the putting.

THE END.......

Great course in excellent condition.

Played this course on a blustery autumn afternoon and have to say I enjoyed it very much.
A test for all handicaps and lots to think about on the tee.
The fairways were in good condition, the bunkers all raked and the subtle greens ran very true.
Got a good deal , £23, as a members guest thanks to the generosity of a fellow TSG member.
I would definetly play here again.

Very impressed

I've played quite a few BGL golf courses. They always impress me. Hoebridge is no different. In fact it is one of the best and one of the tougher courses. The weather for August was atrocious, but the company was good. The course handled the rain very well. A lot of money has gone into drainage. Hoebridge has some tough holes especially on the back nine, so get your birdies going out.
The staff at BGL are superb. We had George last years captain looking after us, he was a diamond.
Food was very good also and good value for money. Course Planner was £4 which is a bit steep but its a good product. I shot 93 in the rain so not to bad, would like to play the course on a sunny day! I will return!!

Hoebridge - an Excellent Golf Facility

A challenging, but enjoyable main course. Hoebridge also has a 9-hole course, an 18-hole par 3 course, a driving range, and a pirate ship for children.
Staff are friendly, and food is excellent.
Watch out for the 13th and 17th holes in particular.

Municipality at it Best?

This is a pretty looking course, great views and whilst there were some difficulties sighting the ball in the low winter sunshine this is a course worth a visit BUT...

Ground as soft, so no run on anything, greens were pitted and bobbly, really quite lumpy - so a different putting technique is required (hit and hope more than stroke). Autumn leaves encroached and made locating errant balls quite a task. Good challenging holes - some wide fairways, some unexpected approaches (especially around the corners). There are some holes of note here, and a chance to score well enough on a good day.

Lots of early morning traffic may make the trip here longer than you would think... sharp left after the 20mph corner is worth watching out for as well. Car park is fine and looks secure enough. The clubhouse is well appointed and cuisine is 'special' ask for the 'golfer's breakfast' for a snack that is anything but light. Well cooked and well presented the food is good.

Staff were helpful and local players were friendly enough. Played as part of a society day, and boy was it a slow round, which meant that the last few holes were played in the gloom and near dark...(that's my excuse)...

Will plan a return trip in the summer months as it is well worth a look, there are some sharp inclines uphill especially brutal so not an easy course to complete on foot.

Easy to lose balls here though - so bring enough although you could find more than you lose...

A number of holes played back into the low winter sun so quite difficult to get a line, teamwork required to spot balls here.

There was evidence of unrepaired divot and pitch marks which was a bit disappointing as I was at the back of my society and we would expect to repair most as we went along... obviously some people failed to repair visible pitch marks , and there were some large divots which could have been easily replaced... So spent a fair amount of my waiting time - doing some gardening.

Overall a good course, nice views, good food and welcoming staff made the day OK.

Always in good condition

There's lots to be impressed about Hoebridge. They have a good clubhouse, well stocked shop, driving range, and the course seems to always be in really good condition. Oh, and along with the 18 hole main course, there's a 9 hole course and an 18 hole par 3 course too.

The fairways are generally wide, but there are quite a few testing holes in there too and a lot of pars have to be earned. The greens especially are amongst some of the best in the area.

Very pleasantly surprised

Entered the Seniors Open here with no great expectations. Pleased to report that the course proved to be FAR better than I had imagined. A good mix of par 3/4/5s add up to a balanced card of par72. Spacious, changes of elevation and dog legs make for an interesting layout. Most impressive though was the conditioning of the course which was fabulous, particularly given that this is a pay and play facility - a great effort by the greenstaff. Will definitely be back.

Don't bother with Shey Copse

Played Shey Copse yesterday (Feb 12) and couldn't be more unimpressed. Fancied a quick 9 holes and the website said twilight started at 2pm, so turned up at 2.30 only to be told (in no uncertain terms) that twilight was actually 3pm and fee was £15.50 rather than the tenner that I'd hoped for. The greens were the worst I've ever seen ... v.bumpy, with holes all over them, simply appalling. A shame as it's my local pay and play, but I won't bother again.

Good but too busy. 5 hour round

Have enjoyed this course for a long time now but have been annoyed by the increase in green fees, as it still has the awful problem of over use. Went to play a weekday, hoping it would clear but after booking and making the normal deposit payment, we arrived and found that a whole series of elderly ladies had just teed off. We had received no prior warning and were not allowed a refund, being advised that we could play and the round would take 5 plus hours. The course is well structured but over saturated and it’s not helped by 5 min tee time allotment. SHAME!

Decent pay & play course

My local pay and play course, only 10 mins away and great to have such a facility so close. Traffic can be bad, esp. at at the weekend, mainly due to slow players/poor etiquette. Not too many bunkers, most fairways quite forgiving (though v.dry this summer), and greens in good shape. Tend to play twilight as £30+ for a round is a bit steep.

Good facilities, often go to the driving range in the evening. Bar closes at 9.30pm, which is frustrating in the summer as no opportunity for a drink after a twilight round ... should definitely be open later June and July.

Considering the recent snow I thought this course was in excellent condition. Where many local courses had holes closed this course was in full play, tees and greens. Holes were varied, and whilst you didn't get punished too badly if you went offline (not always a bad thing) it was a very enjoyable round and good value for money. Apparently it can get busy in the summer if they tey and cram too many people on, so play it now while you can.

Busy Friendly Club

Played this with a member so got a free game (Normally £27) There are three courses, an 18 hole full size, 9 hole full size & an 18 hole par 3. We played the 18 full size. The first 4 or 5 holes are quite flat and fairly open, which is good to build you confidence, then the course starts to get interesting with hills blind dog-legs & hidden dips. The greens were in excellent condition although did have a cosmetic, fungal problem which didn't effect the roll. The course was very clean & tidy with and was very nice to play on. looking forward to another free game soon!

This course is great for the thinking golfer & is well worth a visit.
