Great course condition

Lovely course flat and open so great for the high handicapper like me. Not really any practice area other than a Astro putting green which is not close to like the greens. Course is in great condition though and the greens are excellent

Fantastic course

Cranham golf course I'd always very well maintained. The fairways are well cut and the greens are quick and true.
This course is ideal for beginners as it's flat, you can see where you're going and due to the fairway trees being not too high you will always get a shot if errant from the tee's.
Only par 67 but has varying challenges and a very picturesque signature hole on the 18th which is a par 3 to an island green surrounded by water.
A great course all year round.

Short , well maintained course

This is strictly pay-as-you-play. A very short course, but very well drained and looked after.
Clubhouse is basic, shared with a restaurant.
worth a trip

A short course but with great greens...

Cranham Golf Course in Upminster, Essex is very short and the fairways are wide but there’s plenty of water to present some challenges. The bunkers and greens were in excellent condition. Plenty of slopes on the greens to keep things interesting.

Great condition

What a relaxing afternoons golf. Course in superb condition and very picturesque. A gentle walk but not ruined. This course doesn't always get the credit it deserves but i really enjoyed it, and the sun and the shorts were out, lovely

Not overly demanding

Cranham Golf Club is an easy course to play as it is very open. Would have liked a buggy as I have just had double knee replacements so it was very tiring towards the end. However its generally flat.

Well worth the visit

Cranham Golf Club is a easy parkland course, which is excellent for the less experienced golfer.

First day back after lockdown and the Tees and greens have definitely benefited in a month off all being in good condition.

Watch the greens cos they are pretty quick.

Definitely worth the £16 green fee

Fantastic condition

The course is in fantastic condition especially the greens which ran true and fast for this time of year. Played here a lot over the last year and always in great condition. Green keepers can be seen often tending to the course.
Only a short course, so ideal for beginners as also has wide fairways, so quite forgiving. Although there is some water on a few of the holes, especially the 18th par 3 island green.

Nice, forgiving course

Nice, flat course which is quite forgiving. But there are some tricky holes and hazards. The 18th is beautiful, green surrounded by a moat.

Good beginners course . . good winter condition

This is a sister course to Toot Hill which is strange given the difference in geographical location. Even stranger is the two courses couldn't be more different.

Practice facilities were zero, nothing. Clubhouse was "basic" . . comfy enough if you want a coffee and Mars Bar . . the changing room could accommodate one person at a time. But clean and staff friendly.

The course would suit a beginner, it is very open. Skinny trees either side of the fairway, so you can find your ball if it goes astray, and get it back on play without too much difficulty. The only real features of the course are shots over water. The par 3 18th in particular is an attractive island green and is reminiscent of the one at "Toot".

Winter conditions, it played very well. Normal tees and greens. Seasoned players may find it lacking in features, and facilities. Top Meadow and Mardyke Valley just down the road offer better value (and breakfast)

Top winter course when all others are muddy

This is one of the best maintained pay & play golf courses you will find around in the winter, when all others will be shut or too muddy.
The staff is very friendly and makes you feel very welcome.
The course is played tee to green all year round (no mats or temporary greens).
The fairways and greens are in excellent condition.
This course is a bit on the short side at only just over 5000 yards and it is fairly open so you’ll struggle to lose a ball other than in the water.
It’s good for higher handicappers trying to improve generally but also useful for lower handicappers who would struggle to have more than a 9 iron into greens on most par 4's (good for your short game)
The best holes are the 7th (par 5), 14th (par 4), 18th (par 3 - signature hole - over water / island green).
I would recommend this course
Sadly no practice nets or putting green.

Lovely little course

No practice facilities, limited food n drink.
but saying that, a lovely course, with friendly staff.
the course is very flat, and high handicappers will find there balls off line, unless you find 1 of the well placed bits of water.
Worth playing, as you can score well if you play well. But if you look at my last score there, it bites too
The greens are always in superb condition, and the course is very well maintained by the friendly staff
Enjoy

Nice condition, especially in the winter as

The course was in very good condition especially for the end of December when most courses around are saturated. Also the greens hold up well for the time of year. Clubhouse is small but hospitable. No bar, just snacks.

Short, well maintained, pleasant.

Cranham is a nice enough flattering little course. Not without challenges, there are enough bunkers, a bit of water and mostly large, slow, gently undulating greens to make you play OK to score well, but the rough is whatever the opposite of penal is and there is little danger in going off-line.

A shame there are no practice facilities at all, Cranham is a nice visit once in a while.

Great little course

I have to agree with most of the comments on here for this course. I have played there twice and have really enjoyed each time. The clubhouse is nice and the staff friendly but unfortunately the only hot food is toast but there is a good cafe nearby so not the end of the world.

There are no practice facilities to speak of, but the course was good fun. It is not long by any stretch of the imagination, even off the whites, but the condition was very good for this time of year and the greens were very true. Not may stand-out holes except the tricky par 4 14th which runs along a lake.

All in all, it is a great place for a quick round of golf on a well maintained course. Happy to go back every now and then.

Nice little course...

I'd heard a lot about Cranham and was looking forward to trying out this course...

The first thing I noticed was how well kept the place was, well laid out car park and clean, friendly and welcoming clubhouse and staff, which is always a nice way to start your day.

The course itself is by no means Wentworth but then it doesn't pretend to be. Instead, what you have, is a short, well maintained and benign course, that's completely flat but with one or two holes that are fun to play (most notably the Par 3's). However, considering the poor weather you have to applaud the quality of the greens.

Would I want to play the course ever week? No. But would I encourage anyone starting out in the game to play here? Yes.

Finally, for the lower handicappers (under 20) I recommend playing off the whites, as from the yellows, the course to way to short!!

Short and well maintained

Cranham is a short hop from the M25 J29, it is a guarded pay and play course, no walkers, caddies, no exceptions. Adequate parking spaces and the small but functional 'clubhouse' (allows spikes) is clean and welcoming. Staff were welcoming and seemed pleased to see us. This pay and play course was popular (I watched as the groups in front of us were well-marshalled and 'encouraged' onto the course. Although busy, this wasn't a particularly slow round although navigation green to next tee was interesting and there were a couple of occasions when the right direction wasn't quite clear. Still local knowledge would help.

Course looked to be well maintained and was in general good nick, the wind did blow a fair amount and the lack of mature trees reminded me just how open it was.

Definately a chance to practice golf skills without being worn out with long and difficult walking. Reasonably flat, very open, good use of the topography,

On the downside - no formal practice facilities (no practice green - so it took a few holes to get the pace of greens). Limited catering facilities (choose to eat at The Puddleduck Fisheries Cafe on the way).

In Summary, good for a quick round, to practice skills, an easy walk (not to many elevation changes) with a few feature holes (the last 5 holes are reasonably interesting). No real mature trees but do watch out for cleverly played water hazards. A good course to play well at if the wind isn't blowing.

NOTE: Play off the white tees for a better challenge (if you are allowed).

Would play it again without question

As I've just started playing again, this is a very friendly course to get back into the game. Water comes into play on more holes than I would like but managed to negotiate al but 1. Considering the weather of late in good nick.

Nice little course

Short course with 7 par threes and 2 par fives. Generally in good condition considering all the rain we had recently. No tee off times bookable on weekdays and it seemed everybody had decide to turn up at 10am so the queue was quite long. But this may well be the exception rather than the rule. I'll let you know after my next visit.

Wow !!!! What a Gem!!!

This is a Gem of a course in superb condition as its owned by Toothill, the greens are undulating fast and in great condition, bunkers and lots of water come into play, the 4th par 4 watch out for the water to the left of the green, 5th par 3 149 yds tee shot over lake no room for error here, 7th par 5 dog leg right totally destroyed me (must try harder)12th par 5 again green to the right. 14th par 4 dogleg right huge lake I found hard to carry and lost 2 balls in the drink but a GREAT hole.18th island hole par 3 yes in the water again, all in all a great course cant wait to play again very well maintained.

Well kept short course

Cranham is a well kept/drained/short course with water and bunkers to catch you out. Would prefer more soft sand in bunkers. Greens running well for winter. Good value & a "Cuppa" is only .60p. Will play again with the Wednesday crowd when doing a quick visit to Essex.
