This is the 2nd time I played this course in two months and I like the fact that it is not very long from the Red tees, yesterday the fairways were very dry, the ball has a lot of run, specially so when the wind was with us, the greens were exceptionally good, some bunkers were in little need of sand but manageable. One of our Team kept finding those traps, well the ball had so much run. ONE par 4 was reached in one by the Organiser of the game, Malcolm S., that was a surprise to him as there were another team in front!!!!!!!
Some lovely Par 3s always well protected. The 9th, Par 4 has a very interesting shaped green with a sort of island in the middle, work was being carried out when we played. There are a few sloping fairways and one needs to chose the aim carefully as the ball may not end up where you wanted to...
The scenery is very attractive, just like a postcard: the dry fairways blended with the sand adding a very soft touch to the landscape with a few bushes and greenery. There is a sense of very open space where one can breath openly. The Kent countryside is beautiful too and there is a very nice view of the Thames Estuary.
Signage is very good to start with but at some points, the next tee signs are missing, so if you play for a first time, you might go to the wrong tee.
A warm welcome in the small Proshop, the bar staff is very friendly, you will find nice coffee and food reasonably prices so are the other beverages.
Nice decking seating area outside overlooking the 18th, always interesting to see how one reaches the green on their final approach.
Plenty of parking, a practice putting green by the 1st Tee, not sure where the nets or driving range were.
There always seem to be a good deal to be had and I would love to return to see how the course plays in the winter, I suspect it will be very windy but draining very well.
So if you have not played Southern Valley, give it a try and see if you like it. (my personal view is that I much prefer this course than Pedham Place, as too many blind shots and very wet in the Winter)
THE END.......
