Typical Pedham

Haven't played here for over a year. Course still in good condition. Greens are great. Bunkers lack of sand. Only complaint I have about this course and this applies to last year as well, they over book the tee times. So course is crowded. It seems they don't allow a big enough gap between groups. So you end up waiting around a lot on the tee.

Easy, forgiving course in decent condition

Really busy and popular course just off the M25.

Impressed with the condition of the course considering how much traffic - clearly drains really well, greens firm and relatively true, bunkers well maintained.

Very open and rough not punitive on my visit - can hit it more or less anywhere and find it. A number of short par 4s and some par 5s reachable in 2 - definitely an easier course for a better player.

Kent links course worth playing

Good condition, nice views, for a links course there’s some good variety. A tough challenge for all levels. Greens were great, and I will be playing this quite often. Really enjoyed it.

Worth a visit

First time playing here, didn't play my best but an interesting course. Very much an inland links so very few trees, lots of doglegs so unable to see many greens until on top of them. We'll worth having golfpad or similar.

Undulating

I'm not entirely sure what I expected after reading some of the reviews, but it's safe to say Pedham Place exceeded them.

There are lots of undulating fairways separated by mounds, a good mix of generous and tighter fairways, doglegs, raised greens and strategically placed bunkers.

There are quite a few great looking holes, and throughout the tees, fairways and greens were all in really good condition.

Add in a very pleasant welcome at reception and all the practice facilities that you could ask for, and you've got a course that's well worth visiting.

Nice dry open course with no trees!

Well I'd played the par three course at Pedham but never played on the 18 hole. I was so surprised at how dry the course was after days of torrential rain. Lots of dog legs, leave many blind shots into the greens. A lot of the time I was not sure which way to aim. The fairways were in great condition, the greens did not run true and were very hard to read, for me they let the course down. The course is very open and the wind changes from hole to hole. A lot of the holes are heavily banked on either side.
there's not one tree on the course but you can't really describe it as a links? The club house is very welcoming, and the full breakfast was good value. The buggy was a bit pricey at £25 but all in all I would definitely go back, especially as this course hardly ever closes due to wet weather. A bit more work with the greens and this could be a cracking course!

Looking good....

Its been a while since I wrote a review for Pedham Place but having played there at the weekend, I must commend the club for the condition of the course. Lush fairways, true greens and a great green fee. Must go back here more often. Great value, especially at TSG partner rates! #willreturnsoon

Good all year course

Pedham is a good all year round course. Played Jan 30th after heavy rain night before, and course was fine. Some wet patch's, but good. Others were closed. You MUST bring a good short game here. Described as 'Inland links', short tee to green, but the greens usually good condition, but tricky. Drop off and undulation galore. Putting difficult. All in all very nice, but short.

Held up well

Considering the amount of rain we have had of late, this course was holding up well. It rained for about half of our round, but luckily never heavily. The wind blew pretty much throughout though, and is this courses main defence, as was proved by the 200yd par 3, into a 2+ club wind!!!!! Surprisingly enough, none of us made the green. The greens were good for the time of year, and the 2 bunkers I went in had good amounts of sand. Going back for a society game, and glad I played before, as there are a lot of blind shots, as previously mentioned.

Par 3 (Academy) course that's a proper test....

If you have two and a half hours but want to play 18 holes of proper golf, then try the par-3 course here....

It's only 9 holes but there are 2 (sometimes very) different tees on each.

Length varies from 84 to 186 yards with an average of 125 yards. There was a bit of wind when we played and we used everything from sand-wedge to 3-wood. All the holes are presented well with an attractive layout, well-trimmed fringes and generous first-cut but very punishing rough if you do go astray.

Decent greens and proper bunkers (if variably raked) complete the challenge. Two 14-handicappers made more bogeys than pars and only a few birdies over 18 holes, but came in for lunch after our 2 circuits feeling we'd had a pretty good outing. You can also take a buggy if you want. We need more of these courses.

If you can allow yourself the freedom of not playing a driver for the day, you'll really enjoy a round here.

£14/16 for 18 holes is probably fair: you will play one fewer shot per hole than you'd play on a full-length course, if you think about it.

Nice track, but just a few pointers

I always enjoy playing Pedham, rain or shine - and have played in both. Today was embracing the ferocious 40mph gales and believe me - the elements were the winners today.

Greens were disappointing today. The grass looked lovely, but it really was like putting on sandpaper.

Ladies 8th tee needs to be repositioned on the same area as the yellows and whites as from there, you get a straight drive and can see the flag. Get to the reds and you are faced with a dog leg left and no sign of the flag.

Just a little pointer Pedham - get the DIY man in and please put a door on 1 of the 2 ladies toilets.....I first visited Pedham in February 2012 and it was like that then! Secondly, it would be great if a socket could be put in the ladies changing room so we can plug in our hairdryers/tongs etc.

Really enjoyable

Pedham has a huge car park and a decent enough club house. The breakfast was good and well priced. There is also a driving range. The main course is an aquired taste due to numerous dog legs and blind shots. Although I do not agree in principle with the title "inland links", I do find Pedham very good fun to go around. The fairways are generally in good nick and the greens true, although a little slow. The course was in fine condition. Couldn't tell you about the bunkers as I disn't find myself in one. It is a little pricey at the weekends but if you manage to play here when there is sunshine and little wind, you will not be disappointed and you should post a half decent score. I look forward to going back.

Interesting inland links course

Played here as part of a society, however do regularly play here anyway. The course is a forgiving inland links course with doglegs on several holes and undulations that gerenally push the ball towards the fairways. The tees, fairways and greens were all good and the rough mostly short. The course's main defence appears to be the wind due to its exposure.

Vast expanse of rolling Kent farmland creates an interesting inland links type course....

Pedham Place golf course is an unexpetecd discovery. first the location is very easy to get to from the M25 J3, vast car park, very attractive clubbouse mirroring the local Kent oast houses and it is an inland links type course which gives the golfer an ability to score well should the ball remain on the fairways, difficult task with the wind. I shall certainly not venture to play there in the wet/windy wintery day like some other TSGers did!

Lots of doglegs, blind shots, undulations everywhere,so plenty of below/above feet shots, side hill/uphill shots. It is an advantage to know the course, also the course planner is not entirely up to date, no mention of it in the Proshop where the reception is luke warm. No equipment or clothes on sale, only the most basic golf sundries.

An excellent but long walk between the holes, well sign posted, sometimes hard climbs and when you are the top of the hills, the views are quite spectacular. Thames estuary in the distance & Tilburry, I think. I remember a very large poppy field in the distance: stunning! (I think it was from hole 7).

Lots of bunkers with adequate sand, some tricky Par 3 with low stroke indexes. This is one course where the Stroke index is the same for the Red or Yellow irrespective of the Par. Some very long Par 5. Water comes into play at the 18th, a small pond negotiate.

Adequate practice facilities.

Changing rooms upstairs.

Pleasant outside seating area in a sort of a courtyard, that is attractive. Coffee ok, tea much better, lovely Victoria sponge cake which Judy L. could not resist to sample. Very fat chips sampled by Ian M.

An Epping Bandits posting, well attended on a lovely sunny but breezy day, prize money for the highest scores and there were lots of very good scores. Well done to the winners. I did not take many photos and the one I took were a little rush, I may post 1 or 2.

Rolling Landscape, Inland Links

easy to find - so very close to the Motorway. car parking is adequate and just a short stroll gets you into a nice reception area, with a lovely outside seating area. You can bring your bags and soft spikes are OK. Toilets were not signposted but were upstairs.

Practice facilities here are excellent, good driving range with lots of incidental targets, practice greens actually played like those on the course.

The course itself is well presented, some wide expanses of fairways, bordered by punative rough. rather a lot of dog legs and blind holes for my particular liking but this course would benefit from a subsequent visit (once you know where to hit the ball I would assume it gets a little more fun.

Good challenges and although some of the holes were.. 'a bit samey' there was enough diversity to keep the interest. Not a lot of water hazards (but then again there were other hazards to trap the unwary) a course for conservative play and certainly a good thinking course.

After round food was varied and OK, locals were pleasant enough, although I found the reception to be less than welcoming (hey it was a hot day and she might have been a bit stressed).

Take the time to look around, there are some good hilltop views here, but be advised that there are some dramatic elevation changes, pathways are hard and it isn't an easy walking course. There aren't many trees for shade so answer your calls of nature before commencing ...

Worth a repeat visit - pick the day wisely though as I can see this being a slow round if the course is full (lots of time spent looking for errant balls).

There's a Par 3 here as well although we never saw much of that.

This is real golf

The clubhouse is small and basic, but nicely laid out.

The dining area is a lovely light area to sit in.

Breakfast was a little disappointing, as some of it was cold and there was bread and butter instead of toast or fried bread.

The ladies changing rooms have two toilets, one with a door missing.

The course should have been shut the day we played. The bunkers were full of water and the fairways were awash with puddles and rivers. The greens were surprisingly dry and fast, which made up for it Let's hope the course wasn't too much damaged. The course is massively challenging and I would love to play it in dry conditions. Lots of blind holes, very exciting! Play methodically and you can score well.

Signage on the course could be better, as there are some long walks between the earlier holes. Luckily, we had someone in our group who knew the way.

Great bar food and good value for money.

An interesting, challenging Link Style course

Due to the fact the weather was against us from start to finish it is amazing that I thoroughly enjoyed this course. My first venture on to a link style course has only made me keen to not only play here again in better weather but venture to 'real' links. My company was fantastic as well. Always helps of course.

I'm sure there was a hole here or there that wasn't a blind tee shot but other than the par 3's I am struggling to remember. This isn't a moan at all as I enjoyed every hole. Although I didn't get to play off to many fairways today fortunately as it is open i only lost one ball and that was more about the weather rushing me to get on and not really bothering to look for it.

The course is another definite to play frequently (there's that line again) but I wasn't overly impressed with the staff. If our money was refunded I think most of us would have not played as it really was cold and wet but as no refund, or rearrangement was offered I felt this was poor customer service and not really looking at the bigger picture.

The breakfast was ok, nothing special. Mine came out so slow that half had finished before I had started and the thimble size coffee cups were a joke. We had to ask for sauce, tea spoons and for the tea and coffee to be brought out. However the bar after was a lot better and I always like the fact you can buy an old fashioned cup of coffee for a quid and not £3 for a latte.

Its the course that will bring me back, not the staff but hey!!, that's what it's about really isn't it.

Putting green was shut and a very good range, although I never warm up.

Definitely one to revisit - hopefully in better weather

Absolutely awful conditions, but very easy to see this would be a great course to play regularly. Very welcoming clubhouse and good practice facilities in the complex, including a modern driving range.

The course itself has a number of unusual features - quite a few holes are tight to OOB and there are a number of holes where tee or second shots are blind. Countering this, the majority of holes are links-like, without just a right or wrong way to play them but with a variety of options and the blind shots are often a reflection of how well the course has been designed to fit into the landscape. I'm not normally a fan of holes with dog-legs that force you to play longer shots into the pin than their preceding shots, but Pedham Place gets away with it. Great greens too - even in lousy conditions they were firm, true, interestingly undulating and a mix of sizes and shapes.

Looking forward to going back!

Best value for money in the area, for inland Links course

Have been playing there for the past few years and it keeps getting better and better. THe long awaited Clubhouse is finally up and running. Reception staff is normally always very nice. Practice facilities are up to today's standards and pros are kind. They offer also children academy courses. The golf course (18 holes) is always in good conditions and the greens are the real germ of the place. When cut short they are excellent. Links type, inland, course with always medium to strong wind coming from the west in general. Well recommended.
The par 3 course is perfect also, if you want to learn golf or bring the children into the game...lots of fun.

Interesting course

The website says that this is a links-style course, and in many respects that's true. No trees on the course, serious amounts of roll on the fairway (even made my topped tee shots look respectable!) lots of undulations, and shots are often played from behind, or on top of dune-like mounds. The long grass is punishing and be prepared to lose a few. There is a nice variety in the holes, and given the number of sharp dog-legs it is well set up for risk and reward play. The greens were in excellent nick....medium to quick and true. The fairways were good with a nice combination of tight and generous. No6 stood out as a particularly challenging par 3, and no13 was a very enjoyable par 5. The practise facility was good but unfortunately the clubhouse was rather shabby - although after 18 holes a beer is a beer wherever you are! Green fees were £15 for Sunday afternoon, and the quality and variation of the course meant that this was excellent value for money. A good, but very challenging course.

Pleasant Surprise

This course was a pleasant surprise. Considering the proximity of the M25 & M20 motorways you are not bombarded with traffic noise. The course has the majority of holes dug out of the hill and the fairways & greens are of a high standard. When you get views of the surrounding area all you can see are fields stretching for miles.
You will need to invest in a strokesaver book (£3.50) when playing for the first time as you can easily get lost and the majority of the Par 4's & 5's you cannot see the green from the tee. Make sure you have lots of balls because if you hit into the long grass you will never find it.
Clubhouse is a bit on the primitive side (Portakabins) but the satff are friendly and helpful.

£12 for a twilight round and 13 holes played, fantastic value.
