A Little Something for the Weekend

Limpsfield Chart Golf Club was created in 1889, so nearly as old as Mr Haywood (possibly), and like him, still going strong. With just 9 holes I wasn't expecting much of a test, but it was so much fun you have/want/need to play it twice. It has a bit of everything, long par 3, long and short par 4's, a clever par 5, and all surrounded by enchanting ancient woodland. It's a heathland course with gorse and heather, hits over an old quarry, and testing shots through narrow gaps between trees. There are 18 different teeing positions, but just a couple that give a noticeably different perspective on the hole, however, the thought and variety of shots needed to make your way round completely make up for that. The course feels like golf was supposed to be, played on natural not manicured ground, in tune with its surroundings. Inside you sense the club's history, with wood-panelled walls and honours boards dating back to the 19th century. The members were friendly, and the bar good value. Despite the obvious tradition, the club has kept up with the times, and is working hard to take on the future, welcoming guests, aiming to have a busy youth section and running a successful 9 hole scheme for those short on time if not money. If you have a couple of hours spare then there can't be many better ways to spend them (though I'd bump it to 3 and play 18). Make your way to Limpsfield Chart for an unexpected treat.

Great welcome, nice course.

I didn't know what to expect here with it being a council run course, but I was blown away by the service from the staff, and enjoyed this parkland layout. At just over 6,000 yds it was a test for all and generally interesting enough to keep all on their toes. The club was well run and great value. All the staff were welcoming and friendly, there was a complimentary bacon sandwich and coffee when we went, at the halfway hut, which was great. Really friendly and would recommend.

Great parkland course

Good challenging course. Horrible day, inthe midst of all the wind and rain. Temp greens an winter tees on some holes and two holes closed. Good layout and would be superb when dry. Staff were really helpful; there was a trolley ban, and I brought my carry bag, but forgot to put my strap back on after cleaning. Pro offered to lend me a bag, or just a strap, which saved me carrying the clubs like a baby. Will definitely go back in better conditions.

Convenient for the airport, and enjoyable round.

Interesting course, but with every fairway flanked by either water or houses. I didn't hit any houses but found the water on 4 occasions. It was busy and well used but still in pretty good condition, and good value.

Good course and fun.

Not as long as other courses in the area but fun to play and quite good condition for December. Some good holes and some not so good. Bar and clubhouse facilities good, and great value.

Brilliant course in top condition

Beautiful course, in great condition. Quite long and a test for all abilities, but not so penal that it becomes too much for high handicappers.Fairways and greens were superb, and there are some spectacular holes. Beers in the clubhouse were cheaper than in townand food was good value. Highly recommended.

Fantastic course. Great area and superb value.

Wonderful course with lots of breathtaking, interesting and challenging holes for all players. A little rough round the edges but well worth a visit particularly at the prices they are offering at the moment. Not only is the golf great but so are the evenings, being only a 10 minute drive from Jerez, there is lots of good sherry to be sampled(!)and great food to be found.

Lovely course.

Lovely course with some testing holes. Was in great condition, beautifully lush, with fast and true greens. Definitely worth another visit.

Lovely course, unusually poor greens at the moment

it's a lovely course, the Griffin, and always enjoyable to play. Was disappointed with the state of the greens this time which were uneven, especially as other courses seem to be in tip top condition. Played here a few times last year and they wew superb, so may be just a one off.
