I don’t know why some people rave about Bletchingley so much. In my opinion it just a bang average course and using 2for1 at £16.50 a round, that’s about right. Whilst the holes are interesting and well laid out, it could be so much better if well maintained. Tee boxes ok, fairways ok, bunkers very poor, not raked, thinly sanded, untidy, greens are okay but nothing to get excited about.
Hartswood are spending some money on a few alterations to the course but it would probably be better spent on a lawnmower. There are some nice holes, but greens could do with a trim, very slow, the tees are messy and i won’t even start on the bunkers. Just avoid!!
It’s a shame because reading previous reviews was looking forward to playing here, but certainly won’t be rushing back.
Very pleasantly surprised. Having lived 10 minutes away for the past 10 years finally got to play Shirley Park last week. And very nice course it is too. Beautiful holes, really well kept. You might need to get to know it before you play it well as there are a few holes where local knowledge really would help, but don't let that put you off.
Nice friendly clubhouse too, don't let the fact it's in the heart of Croydon put you off.
Played Selsdon last week and it was in fantastic condition. Lots of green keepers working on the course and it was a real pleasure to play it in that condition. Really hope they keep it up.
Real good mix of holes too.
As its part of a hotel the bar is the hotel bar so do get someone else to pay for the drinks!!
Excellent golf club, do arrive early and make use of the putting and chipping greens, particularly the putting green. The greens here run perfectly but are very quick. There are also a few nets. The course is hard work as the holes are long so there is no respite but it is an excellent challenge and all beautifully presented.
Lovely clubhouse too with good changing rooms, friendly pro shop and nice bar overlooking the 18th and practise greens.
Very nice course, with very good greens. Some of the holes are a bit tight in places but it was very quiet when we played so you hardly noticed. Nice modern clubhouse too.
I played here for the first time today with a member and was suitably impressed. There are no truly wonderful holes, but they are all slightly different and a pleasure to play. The course was in a good condition with large greens which ran straight and true.
The only downside would have to be the club house which while providing all you need is slightly dated, and the driving range which is squeezed between the 1st and 18th fairways, and is probably narrower than both. At least you'll learn to hit it straight!
Considering the recent snow I thought this course was in excellent condition. Where many local courses had holes closed this course was in full play, tees and greens. Holes were varied, and whilst you didn't get punished too badly if you went offline (not always a bad thing) it was a very enjoyable round and good value for money. Apparently it can get busy in the summer if they tey and cram too many people on, so play it now while you can.
Despite continuous rain, I thoroughly enjoyed my round today at Cottesmore. We played The Griffin course which is apparently by far the better of the two. The holes were challenging and interesting, with good fairways and excellent greens. Would certainly come back again.
This course is an absolute gem. Some excellent holes, with a linksy like feel to it. You've got to think over every shot. Greens were also running good and true. We were lucky, we played with no wind, but apparently if it does get up it can cause havoc. If your golf is not going well you will ale=ways enjoy some of the stunning views.
We play a mini tournament here every year, and although a bit basic the course is a good test. This year the greens were very good but bunkers were poor. It is still an enjoyable course to play, and very good value if you are in the area.
Having looked at the website, and read some reviews I was thoroughly disappointed. The fairways were very very poor, in fact using the term fairway is rather generous, suggest field instead. Greens were better. Its a shame the course has some nice holes. Needs someone to chuck a bit of money at it.
