Poor in all areas

I can't comment on the clubhouse as it was closed. Staff were very helpful and friendly.

Sadly the tee's and greens were awful with lots of rubbish around the course.

£10 for the twilight but the £10 in balls you will lose due to rolling off the fairway by even just a foot would bean the first cut of rough will swallow your ball.

Won't be returning, much better options around.

Disappointing but a good course

Club officials were rude and made us feel as if we was not wanted. Had to argue the fact TSG members get the reduced rate of £15 after 12 on a weekend, they wanted to charge £35..anyway they made it as if they had done us all a favour
Club house was messy and after the game i might as well had been in a pub on a football match day... did not bother me to much but i would had left if we had female company.
The course was hard and a decent track, well worth a visit for £15 but never £35.
Practice facilities looked as old as me and to many stones in the bunkers... Greens were in good condition as were fair ways.

Enjoyed my day with great company but won't be returning any time soon

Great Course and well worth a visit

Stunning entrance that lets you know you have arrived.
Lovely club house entrance with a very well stocked pro shop (decent prices also) Excellent practice area with driving range. Course is in mint condition and i don't think you will find to many truer greens. 18 excellent holes with the back 9 able to sent all handicaps. I have played this 3 times in a week and if i lived closer i would be a member tomorrow.

lovely challenging course

really enjoyed Lullingstone, it has an excellent layout and a challenge for all levels. we played on a very windy day meaning our scores were not so good but the views and layout helped me forget that.... Greens need a lot of work as they really do let everything else down, so fingers crossed they will be sorted or the summer

great course, plenty to challenge everyone level entry. Clubhouse and facilities were excellent with all members and staff being very friendly. Would love to visit again soon and would recommend it to any TSG member. The price is worthy of a good days golf

Worst Ive been to

On Arrival you will see a nice looking building with a building site on your right hand side, head straight to the building site and "Welcome to Basildon Golf Club"

I understand clubs improving and working having to be carried out but there is no reason not to be tidy while doing it. Rubbish and bricks everywhere. IMO i would save the money on what looks like a a club house extension and put it to the purchase of a lawn mower for the very long fairways.

Condition:
Tees: Ok
Fairways: Bad, no difference to the light rough
Greens: Patchy, Bumpy... In fairness it did look like the effort to save some greens was underway.
Challenge: Some tricky tee shots but not much to the course and very short for a par 72

Its main problem is the type of golfer they attract, sadly all were members. Now i am no golfing snob but the etiquette was disgusting. 4 Times the group behind us played over our heads and at least once only just missing us, swearing and shouting, 4 people to one buggy and we see one guy finish a can of beer and just chucked in to the fairway (this was at 9:45)

IMO you can chuck as much money as you wish to improve this club but while they have members like I've seen then it will never be a course i would recommend to anyone.

Needless to say, i would not return to this club even if it was free.

Amazing condition, very good course

The Grove was a fantastic all round experience, from the moment you arrive you are treated like a king (just a paying one lol)

The facilities are like none i have ever seen in honest, and the condition of the course was the best i've ever seen and what with todays weather thats saying something.

Ok now for the geeky stuff, lets chat about the buggy, had more mod-cons then most cars.

Having said all that, it was not the most interesting course i have played, some brilliant holes but also some that id easily forget within the week.

Price: Well today we paid £105 and we had bacon rolls and sausage & mash after the round with a buggy.... i am happy with the value but i personally feel the summer full rate of £160 is overpriced.

if you love golf, then this is one to put on the tick list, treat yourself.

Nice short course, worth a visit

Club House very much hidden, nice pro shop with a nice welcome. Club house very nice with a good food on offer.

Bit of a walk to the first tee and its a bit all over the place but my what a lot of fun it is, id say its not a course for the serious golfer. Although this is a short course it is not an easy course, blind shots and very narrow with well placed hazards.

Greens were the best i have played this year, true and quick. A lot of water on fair ways is the only negative i can state but what do you expect if you have 24 hours of rain.

Looking forward to going back when bone dry....

Well worth a visit.

Not being a long hitter i did worry about playing Essex's only par 73 golf course. However it was a pleasure. Some real tricky tee shots, you have to think on this course or you WILL be punished.
Clubs house very nice and pro welcomed us very well. As for the food it was of not only good quality but quantity to.
Would go back to this course no doubt.

Excellent Course

This is a must play course in my eyes, why? Because of its quality.
I have played more interesting courses but the quality of fairways and greens was top notch.

Club House was well set out with an old traditional feel, what i call a real golf club.

Fantastic condition with good views

Ok, Condition of the course was excellent and the greens were very true with a great pace. Club house was clean and tidy with a nice area to have some coffee and food.

Downside to this course is that i felt it was over priced for midweek golf, £32 monday-friday, so make sure you take advantage of the TSG 241 offer.
This course also had many blind shots, so try to play this course for the first time with someone whom has been b4.... Would recommend getting a buggy as long walks between tees.

Would go back as did not have a great day and the condition of the course alone is worth a revisit.

Good & Would revisit

I truly don't remember playing a course that changed in level of difficulty as did Shendish Manor.

With a 17 points after 9 holes it had been agreed that the course showed very little imagination and was a little to easy, then with no warning it become one of the hardest back 9 i have played to date, scoring just 9 points.

16 or so players from our group and only 1 kept his score going.

Cant wait to play in the summer, the challenge would make me go back a number of times.

Once is enough

Played at this course on Friday 14th December and the weather was really bad, so i can only comment on the first 10 holes of this course.

Let me start upon my arrival. Club house was dead and was only office staff there and they was point blank rude. They had a coffee machine as the bar/kitchen did not open until 11.
Some members come in, we said good morning and we was blanked, they then made some comments about us being there, not to us but loud enough for us to hear.

Off to the first Tee:... It was an ok course and considering the rain the greens played well until the water took over and created puddles.

However its badly laid out with no information on the tees of the hole, no yard markers on the course and what can only be called "Stupid" tee position.... a number of tees played blind first shots but with no post or indication as to there you should be playing.

They also had a driving range that played across two fairways, meaning on one hole i had to look at 6 balls before finding mine and then to rub it in i was nearly hit.

Needless to say i am glad this was a free round of golf and i do not recommend visiting and i will NEVER be going back

A Great Challenge

Well, its a great course and for this time of year in great condition. It has some lovely holes to challenge any golfer.

It plays long, so if you're a short hitter you're looking at pars at best.

The Clubhouse is very friendly with a good selection of drinks and food.

Would go back anytime.

Ok Club but Very nice Course

Well... its a mixed bag for me really! I really liked the course layout and some really great holes....Some Tee box's were a tad rough but that would be down to the weather of late.

I really enjoyed the course, flat layout with the odd hill, big greens that had a nice roll to them and some very well placed hazards.

Club house was very basic for such a local high profile club... Bar area again very basic and not what id call welcoming or warming. (Just as well i was already in great company)

I would play again but not in a rush to go back. Played better for less money.

Brilliant Course

When you arrive, you know you have arrived...my ford focus looked out of place in the car park but once in the club house the welcome could not have been anymore friendly.

We played the old course and it was in top condition regardless of the wet... some hole of real beauty and challenge.

If you get the chance to go, take it.

WOW...What a course...a Must play......

Well i have sat at the desk now for 5 mins not knowing what words to use to describe my opinion of this course...... Brilliant seems an understatement!!!

On arrival the club just had a great feel to it, a real golf club..All the club members were very polite and friendly as was the staff in the pro shop.

The first tee is one i have never seen before, no place for a shy golfer.
I was not lucky enough to find the fair way from the tee but after my second shot i found what i would call "the carpet"... very lush indeed, i have seen worse greens let alone fair ways.

The course carried on the quality, unlike my game but it mattered not. Some very interesting holes that will challenged all levels of golfer, and come across as a course that just does not get boring.

I personal have not seen greens like RBGC in the UK before, very true and fast.... the way they should be.

Club house was just as special as the course, with great history and an atmosphere that you don't see in many golf clubs. I was Lucky to get a tour by Judy after a drink in the 19th Hole.

If you get the chance to play at RBGC then you must jump at the chance, i am already looking forward to my next visit.

Quality & fantastic value

Well what a course this was for just £11

Greens in top condition, fairways lush and the tee box's rather good.
All this helped by the fact the clubs championship is due to be played on Saturday.

Best condition course i have played in the area during this so called summer

Good course going down the pan

I was a member of this course 2 years ago and thought id pop back to see some old faces and have a round on Saturday.

Green Fee was £25
Putting green was in poor condition.
Fairways looked more like light rough
the light rough was shocking, with a number of balls within our group not being found just 2 foot off the fairway.
Greens were hit and miss and changed per hole.

Wont be going back

Greens are in great nick and you won't find a better pay and play course in the area.

Nice course

Played Blakes twice this week and must say its a very nice links style course. The 8th is enough for a revisit (copy of sawgrass 17th). It could do with a tad more spinkle of water as pitched 15/20 yards short of green to still see your ball run off the back of the green with pace is a tad frustrating.

Top Value

Well this course offers somthing for everyone, open fair ways for the high handicap player to find but options for the brave low handicap player. Clay based so no winter matts and not closed for bad weather like most. At a bargin of £20 a round with a member i think you will find hard to beat in the area. Staff and memebers very friendly.

With great facilites and warm up practice areas this course is great value for money. Fair ways and greens could be improved. This is a test for any level of golfer with some real tough holes.
