Nice course with some interesting holes

Tees, fairways, bunkers and greens all in a good condition. Some nice holes with some very scenic views. Watch out for the par 3 4th hole, especially playing off the white tees and the wind is blowing!

Nice clubhouse and a grass practice area.

Worth playing if you are in the area.

Nice 9 hole course

This is a nice nine hole course. Tees, fairways, bunkers and greens were all in a good condition. Some nice, scenic holes. A nice warm-up for your round on the main course.

Really nice course

Hilly course that is kept in a very good condition. The greens are tricky to read and some greens have two tiers. Nice driving range, you can hit the ball off the grass in the summer months. Well worth playing if you are in the area.

Not sure about South Essex!

Guy in the pro shop was not very helpful at all! Even made us wait until 2pm so I could get on free being a Crown Golf member at another course, despite the course being empty. Then had problems getting the 2for1 offer for the other two in our party!

Course was in a good condition despite the wind and rain. Our only problem was the bounce. I hit a 7 iron to one green and the ball landed on the fringe of the green. It then bounced 30 to 40 feet in the air straight into the rough! This happened to both Terry and myself a few times. It was like your ball was landing on a concrete path!

Nice parklande course

Played here in the Crown Golf League off the Blue tees. Course was in a good condition despite the winter we have had. The sand in the bunkers was very heavy, which doesn't help my dig you ball out approach! Well worth a visit.

Great course that is worth playing

Really nice course. Good practice facilities and clubhouse. Tight course in places so some good driving will help keep your score low.

Nice council course

Played here for the first time in January 2014. Very wet with standing water on some fairways. Greens were very damp.

Although a short course there are some interesting holes.

I would like to play here in the summer when the course was dry.

What a shame!

Hartswood is a council run course and you can tell! Despite being in a great setting the lack of tender loving care has resulted in a good course being rather poor.

The layout (Parkland) is very good and some of the holes are really nice.

The problem is the council won't spend any money on simple things, like cutting the grass on the fairways and looking after the greens.

This could be a really nice course if only somebody would give it a little tender loving care. Why somebody doesn't take this course over I don't know.

It's worth a visit if only to see for yourself how nice the layout is, but be warned, the greens will be poor and very slow. We played on a Saturday and there were times when we couldn't work out if we were on the fairway or not!

Nice course

A short (5261 yards - Yellows) course that has mature trees lining the fairways.

This is not a course for a driver off each tee, pick your place on the fairway and take whatever club gets you there.

Nice, small pro shop with friendly staff.

Good clubhouse with a nice veranda overlooking the par 3 18th hole.

A hilly course with some good doglegs to negotiate.

Well worth a visit in the summer months.

Nice, hilly course

Nice clubhouse, but expensive with a poor choice of food.

Great practice facilities, driving range, large putting green and a chipping/bunker area. The mats on the range were very poor and in need of replacing, although I did notice a couple of pallets of new mats waiting to be put down.

The course was good. A nice hilly course with tree lined fairways. Greens didn't look that good but they were true and pretty fast.

The pro shop was very poor, lack of anything to sell and no yardage charts, they are being printed!

Worth a visit in the summer months

Great course

Great parkland course. A long course but some pretty wide open fairways to aim at. There are some well placed bunkers to catch your tee shots.

Nice views from some of the holes.

Great, hilly course

This is a great course, but you either need a buggy or to be a mountain goat! It's quite a hilly course.

Some fantastic views from the tees and looking back from the greens.

Two greens on some holes (used to be a 9 hole course with two greens on each hole)

Well worth playing.

Good course

Gave the clubhouse and practice a three mark but didn't go to either! A nice, tightish parkland course. Quite hilly, but not as bad as some of the other courses in the area. Everything was in a good condition when I played there is February. Well worth a visit.

Tough course!

This is a well looked after course. The tees, fairways and greens were very good. They let themselves down by not raking the bunkers after some heavy rain the night before, such a simple thing to do but noticed by everybody who played!

Average course

Ruxley Park course.

This is a very hilly course.

The tees and fairways were in a poor to average condition.

Greens were good but very slow to putt on, so I left many putts well short.

Given a choice I would play the other course (Cray Valley) which is 200 yards up the hill

Immaculate

This is one of those 'Must play' courses.

The condition of this course was immaculate.

Tees, fairways and greens were superb, this was like playing a course on the European tour. You could even see the criss cross pattern on the fairways as you stood on the tee.

Bunkers were good but I only went in one so couldn't say if they were all good!

Greens were true to putt, with no pitch marks or blemishes on the green.

Good bar, medium sized pro shop and friendly staff.

If you want to play a round of golf in this part of the country then make sure it's at Bentley GC

Nice course

Flat course with heather lined fairways, so stay on the short stuff! And if the wind blows you'll struggle.

Bunkers still need sand in them but are playable.

They had just hollow-tined the greens when I played so putting was a bit of a lottery.

Great course

This is a great municiple golf course. Set on hilly ground it has some great holes.

The greens were poor when I played which is unusual for here. Some long grass on them and they were hard to read!

Bunkers could do with some more sand in them, but the sand that is in them is very heavy stuff!

We paid £7.50 each midweek using a 2-for-1 voucher

Nice, parkland course

A really nice parkland course, but it's run by the council so needs some money spent on it!

We played on the 13th March and teed off on mats (poor quality ones) despite the tees looking playable.

The greens once again were in a poor condition. Putts would turn off line due to the diseased grass!!!

Such a shame as this could be a top quality course.

Nice, parkland course

I played here after a weekend of heavy rain. The fairways and greens were wet.

Some very interesting holes, and the river that runs through the course comes into play on a few holes.

A really nice, parkland course that does appear to be well looked after.

Staff were friendly and helpful, although no breakfast before 11am!!!

I'm really looking forward to playing this course again

Worth A Visit

Really like this course. Staff very friendly and helpful. Nice, uncovered range where you can hit balls from a mat or off the grass. Great idea to make everyone walk by the range to get to the first tee.

Course in a good condition, although most of the wet parts were near the tees.

Greens were firm and fast, despite being damp! I would hate to see how fast they get in the summer.

Fairly open course with some well placed bunkers and ponds.

Well worth a visit

Great practice facilites, grass driving range, chipping area and putting green.

Very good use of the terrain to make this course.

Well Worth A Visit

Despite my high score I do like Woolston Manor GC.

Each hole is a good test of golf and I've never seen so many bunkers on a golf course, There must have been at least three around each green and probably the same on the fairways.

A real 'Thinking' course where it pays to leave the big stick in the bag on a few holes.

If it's your first time there get a yardage chart as you'll need it.

The course was in a very good condition when I played it so I would recommend a visit.

Council Course

This is you 'Typical' council course. Very uninteresting layout, most holes are straight up and down. The fairways were good and most holes were straight. Keep the ball on the fairway and out of the trees and you'll do well.

Poor course!

This is one of my least favourite courses.

I've played here twice and the greens were not good, hard the first time I played and bumpy the second time.

The grass on the fairways was too long or the fairway was bare.

There is a gem of a hole on this course, the 17th, if only it could be cut out and put onto another course!

They have a driving range which is really a large area of waste land. I didn't want to hit my irons from the grass for fear of what I might find just underneath.

Very nice course

I found this golf club to be a friendly place to play golf. The course was in a great condition when I played there. Some very interesting holes and some even better views over the surrounding countryside.

I would play here again.

Blakes GC

Nice, large modern clubhouse.

Very good practice/warm-up facilities, including a open range, chipping area, bunker, and putting green.

Tees and fairways are poor, but the greens are good despite looking like they are a bit sparse where the grass is concerned, but a true putt is obtained.

Bunkers were good, with sand! Although a few of the people who are playing might like to learn how to use a rake.

Very open, interesting course with very few trees, and those that are there are small. If the wind is blowing you'll feel it on this course.

I would go back and play there again.
